Description

The Department of Clinical Neurosciences in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research & Clinical Trial Therapist. This Part‑time Fixed‑Term position is for approximately 7 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension. This position reports to the Research Scientist.

The position requires working across multiple research projects and clinical trials, to conduct standardized clinical assessments and deliver therapy interventions for individuals living with stroke. The work requires managing multiple tasks concurrently, including scheduling participants, collecting high‑quality research data (which may include using robotic technology or non‑invasive brain stimulation), and maintaining accurate documentation in accordance with clinical trial and ethical guidelines.

Workload may fluctuate depending on participant recruitment, study timelines, and data collection phases, with peak periods during active recruitment and intervention phases.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a high level of professionalism, empathy, adaptability, and awareness of participants' physical, cognitive, and medical limitations. Activities may be physically and mentally demanding due to the need for sustained attention, precise protocol adherence, and occasional manual assistance with participant positioning and equipment setup.

Summary of

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct standardized clinical, behavioral and functional assessments on individuals with neurological disorders, in accordance with study/clinical trial protocols
  • Deliver standardized therapy interventions in accordance with study/clinical trial protocols
  • Record participant assessment data in accordance with study protocols and complete required documentation within the study databases
  • Maintain study logs (screening, enrollment, adverse events, deviations)
  • Follow data security, confidentiality, and regulatory requirements
  • Assist in the development of new study/clinical trial protocols and interventions
  • Monitor participant safety, fatigue, and tolerance during study procedures
  • Communicate clearly with participants and caregivers regarding study procedures and expectations
  • Liaise with investigators, research scientists, clinicians, and coordinators
Qualifications / Requirements
  • Licensed Physical or Occupational Therapist
  • 5+ years of clinical experience working with neurological disorders/injuries
  • Comprehensive understanding of rehabilitation principles for the upper and lower extremity
  • Background in clinical trials preferred but not required
  • Computer literacy: MS Windows, Word, Excel, MS Outlook and MS Access
  • Effective communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Cooperative and dependable
  • Ability to work simultaneously on different projects
