Overview
PCHS Calgary is a non-profit organization focused on providing culturally-specific and client-centred supportive programming to the South Asian community in areas of:
Addiction, Mental Health and Family Enhancement/Violence Prevention. PCHS extends to providing community outreach, education, awareness and peer support initiatives. Bridging service gaps between the mainstream population to the marginalized South Asian population in providing services from a cultural lens and understanding. Our services are provided with cultural sensitivity and linguistic competency. This position reports to the Clinical Program Manager.
Key Function:
The prime responsibilities of this position will be to provide supportive and therapeutic counselling including individual, family and group counselling at PCHS Calgary office and community settings. Some city-wide travel and community setting work is expected.

- Counselling:
Provide initial and ongoing assessment, effective case plans, goal setting for lifestyle and personal counselling to assist the family/individual to develop skills to manage family-centered complex and layered needs - Assist clients/families of diverse backgrounds to find effective strategies/solutions through counselling within a cultural context in English, Punjabi, Hindi or Urdu as required
- Conduct informal psychosocial assessments using validated tools
- Assist clients to navigate and access appropriate community resources, provide clients ongoing support as needed within the parameters of the agency mandate
- Conduct psycho educational group counselling and specialized workshops and awareness events/media in areas of expertise as deemed appropriate by the management team
- Maintain professional boundaries, adhere of the oath of confidentiality and follow the code of conduct in an ethical manner while providing support to clients
- Provide in person counselling at partnered community settings
- Conduct accurate and timely admin duties according to protocols such as, case notes, response times, client file management, data collection/statistical collection, data entry in the record management system and completing reports
- Participate in regular supervision, annual performance reviews and performance improvement plans
- Work towards/maintain membership with relevant professional regulatory bodies
- This is a full-time position that requires office and community work in-person five days a week with some weekend availability as required
- A Masters in Counselling, Psychology, Social Work or a relevant field is required.
- Second South Asian language (written and spoken) is required.
- Experience working with diverse communities, particularly South Asian populations, and understanding of the cultural context would be an asset.
