What We Do:
Since , The Alex has been a community-based, not-for-profit organization providing integrated primary health care, community support services, and housing-focused programs to individuals and families who experience barriers to accessing traditional health, housing, and social service systems. Services are grounded in principles of health equity, low-barrier access, trauma-informed practice, cultural safety, harm reduction, and person-centered care.
The Mobile Care Clinic is a flexible outreach service that provides low-barrier supports including basic wound care, hygiene supplies, peer support, and harm reduction resources, with referral pathways to additional services as needed.
Reporting to the Mobile Health Program Manager, the Mobile Resource Specialist is responsible for safely operating the mobile health unit, completing set-up of the mobile clinic, and acting as the first point of contact for clients and host site team members. This position is a key team member of the mobile health strategy at The Alex and delivers direct clinical interaction as well as operational support to clinicians.
The Mobile Resource Specialist acts as a strong representative of The Alex and our organizational values.
This is a permanent, full-time position.
What You Will Do:
Operations
Operate the Mobile Health unit safely.Perform daily vehicle checks and coordinate maintenance with the Facilities team and approved vendors.Drive the mobile unit to scheduled sites, events, and outreach locations.Host Site Liaison
Act as the primary on-site contact between The Alex and host site teams.Build and maintain strong relationships with host site staff.Represent The Alex’s mobile health program with professionalism and care.Clinical Flow & Client Support
Support client flow between host site and the mobile health unit.Complete client intake with accurate data entry and assessments.Assist with data collection and documentation.Support clinicians with resource navigation, case coordination, and referrals.Promote continuity of care by connecting mobile services with other Alex programs.Client Engagement & Resource Navigation
Build therapeutic relationships using a trauma-informed, client-centered approach.Support clients with triage, advocacy, and navigation to community services.Represent The Alex at events and community fairs.Perform additional duties as assigned.What You Bring:
Diploma in Social Work, Addictions Studies, or related field required; equivalent education and experience will be considered.Minimum 2 years of relevant experience.At least 5 years of experience driving large, bus-sized vehicles; comfortable operating in varied weather conditions.Strong organizational and communication skills; proven ability to collaborate in team settings and build relationships with clients, partners, and external stakeholders.Passion for working with marginalized populations, including individuals experiencing addictions, mental health challenges, or homelessness.Knowledge of Calgary’s social services and resources for vulnerable populations.Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) is an asset.Minimum of 21 years of age and three years of driving experience is required to drive an Alex fleet vehicle.Class 5 driver’s license and a clean 3-year drivers abstract are required.Air brake endorsement is an asset.First Aid (Emergency or Standard) – Level C CPR & AED within 30 days of hire date; certification must be valid for a minimum of 6 months upon hire.A satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal record clearance and Child Welfare Intervention Check are required.Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada:
