Overview

The SHC is more than just a “hospital.” It is a campus environment that includes inpatient, outpatient and wellness services. We have four key pillars of service:

These pillars guide the development and delivery of service to all patients and families  are looking for a collaborative and innovative Psychologist to join our multidisciplinary team. This position is responsible for providing clinical assessment, recommendations, and individual and group therapeutic interventions as well as consultation services to patients and families.

The primary caseload for this position is supporting outpatient neuroscience and cardiac clinics with occasional coverage to acute care units and other outpatient areas.

Reporting to the Allied Health Assistant Manager, the Psychologist II works collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team to provide holistic, comprehensive therapeutic treatments to clients who experience a wide variety of symptoms and issues. The Psychologist participates in program planning, development and implementation. The incumbent will be expected to provide, develop, and evaluate patient‑centred services that are evidence‑based. As well as provide clinical supervision of doctoral‑level psychology residents.

The successful incumbent will demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain collaborative working relationships. They will demonstrate sound clinical judgement and critical thinking skills as well as have strong time management and prioritization skills. The caseload and work hours for all positions within the Allied Health department may be subject to change based on operational considerations.

Responsibilities

As a Psychologist II, you will provide advanced clinical services (including psychological assessment, diagnosis and/or intervention), consultation and education to the interprofessional team and patients/families, and/or provide clinical leadership and coordination in an assigned program area. This is an advanced level psychology position that will allow you to work with or within teams to provide and inform services for patients with complex and multi‑dimensional medical, psychological, interpersonal, environmental and/or instrumental needs.

You will consult, collaborate, and enact initiatives to ensure that practices are evidence‑based and in alignment with psychology standards of practice and code of ethics, as well as policy, legislation and regulations. You will be expected to lead, facilitate and/or participate in program, policy, and procedure development, service planning, staff development, quality improvement and evaluation, and/or research activities as identified by the needs of the service area(s).

You may provide supervision to doctoral level psychology residents, master’s level interns, provisional psychologists, psychometrists and other team members.

Required Qualifications

Completion of doctoral degree in Psychology in an applied area relevant to the practice setting from a Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) or American Psychological Association (APA) program. A combination of equivalent education and experience may also be considered. Active or eligible for registration with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP). Applications from provisional psychologists may be considered.

Required Qualifications

Graduate from an accredited PhD program in Clinical or Counseling Psychology required. Recent experience, within the last 4 years, working in a hospital setting with patients who have a neurological diagnosis. Recent experience in psychotherapy/counselling with adults and families. Demonstrated commitment to professional growth. Alberta Heart and Stroke:
Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience coordinating and facilitating therapeutic groups. Experience with in the last 4 years in psychotherapy/counselling with adults who have a neurological diagnosis and/or chronic illness and/or chronic pain. Experience in therapeutic modalities including CBT, ACT and Emotion‑focused treatments. Knowledge of trauma and trauma‑informed care. Experience working with a multidisciplinary team.
