Aboutthe Role
Reporting to the Manager, Calgary Support Services and in close consultation with the Director of Programs and the Manager, Medicine Hat Support Services, the Clinical Lead will be responsible for leading the Safe Link Alberta nursing team in Medicine Hat and Calgary. Leadership responsibilities will include onboarding and mentorship of new team members, acting as the primary liaison for the Safe Link Alberta Medical Director, monitoring training and competencies, ensuring adherence to clinical standards and policies for practice and data protection, and supporting program development, delivery, and evaluation.
The Clinical Lead will also actively participate in nursing activities for STBBI testing and treatment.
This is a full‑time term position with an anticipated end date of March 31, 2027, with possibility of extension. The position is based at Safe Link Alberta's operational site in Calgary and requires 25 to 35 hours of work per week, Monday through Friday. Services will be provided throughout Safe Link Alberta's provincial catchment area, including Medicine Hat, Calgary, and rural communities across the South Zone.
Travel within southern Alberta is required, along with occasional evening and weekend work to support testing events.
- Work in collaboration with the Safe Link Alberta nursing counterparts and Medical Director to provide STBBI testing and treatment services to members of key populations. Maintain a special focus on the identification and reduction of syphilis across southern Alberta.
- Work in collaboration with the Support Services and Community Engagement teams, as well as with Nursing counterparts across the organization to coordinate testing events and align standards of care.
- Provide system navigation for program participants and work to minimize barriers to care by building partnerships and coordinating a network of services.
- Ensure on‑going support to clients through the development of mutually agreed upon contact plans, maintaining regular appointments and telephone calls.
- Provide access to and facilitate integrated referral pathways with other Safe Link Alberta and community services related to identified needs.
- Maintain current knowledge of local testing and treatment services as well as public health trends; adjust project activities in response.
- Provide additional nursing care when required and within scope.
- Provide evidence‑based health education on topics such as sexually transmitted and blood borne infections, sexual health, and general physical and mental health. Focus on increasing public awareness and uptake for testing related to syphilis and congenital syphilis.
- Engage in prevention discussions and activities, including individual education and the distribution of STBBI prevention supplies (safer sex and substance use equipment) based on participant need.
- Develop and maintain inter‑agency collaborative relationships with community partners to enhance service delivery models and to reduce barriers. Includes participation in community meetings and networks.
- Maintain and enhance knowledge of emerging information and trends related to sexual health, substance use, social determinants of health, and the specific challenges faced by priority populations through ongoing self‑directed learning.
- In partnership with the Community Engagement team, develop and facilitate education sessions (virtual and in‑person) to community partners, service providers, members of key populations, post‑secondary students, and members of the general public regarding syphilis and other STBBI’s when needed.
