Quality Improvement Consultant, Clinical Neurosciences

The Department of Clinical Neurosciences and Paediatrics in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Quality Improvement Consultant. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 24 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

This position is based at Foothills Medical Centre and is a hybrid remote and on-site role, with occasional travel to the Alberta Children's Hospital, Peter Lougheed Centre, South Health Campus and Rockyview General Hospital to support physician driven quality improvement project work.

Reports to the Principal Investigator.

• Advise on all aspects of quality improvement, provide recommendations and support to any members of the DCNS and pediatric QI councils
• Identify quality issues at the academic teaching clinics and provide evidence based recommendations to clinic leadership
• Provide expert consultation and advice on clinical QI concepts. Candidates with a medical background will be expected to apply their understanding of clinic functioning, clinic-patient interaction, and appropriate QI for the discipline
• Use their technical knowledge in QI to facilitate QI in the clinic they have been assigned
• Contribute to all phases of departmental QI projects including: designing AIM statement, project planning, literature reviews, design, implementation, analysis and evaluation
• Contribute to grant proposals, reports, publications, presentations
• Support the application of mixed methods, data collection, and data analysis where necessary (qualitative and quantitative methods)
• Provides advice to residents for their QI projects
• Work with a high level of precision in terms of data quality and quality improvement theory
• Participate (by presenting findings) in Grand Rounds, Lunch and Learns, Scholarship Interest Group, etc.
• May be required to remain highly flexible in relation to hours worked
• Must work independently when making decisions pertaining to projects

• Master's Degree (or equivalent) in a health-related clinical or administrative discipline
• Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) and Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification preferred
• Minimum 3 to 4 years of experience in quality improvement in a clinical setting required, including leading process and change management initiatives, outcome evaluation and implementation of best evidence-informed practices
• Successful completion of methodological and literature search research methods courses an asset
• Formal training in QI methodology, e.g. AHS Improvement Way Fundamentals Plus, Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) courses/certificate, or equivalent and Prosci Change Management Certification preferred
• Experience with the integration of AI technology with QI methodologies would be an asset
• Experience with REDCap survey creation, using Connect Care and Tableau reporting tools, and/or creating process maps preferred
• Strong data analysis skills, including the ability to independently extract, analyze, and synthesi data and create Connect Care reports, with strong knowledge of the inpatient Connect Care charting platform to support quality improvement and operational initiatives preferred
• Demonstrated ability to lead large-scale quality improvement projects and multi-disciplinary teams in complex health care environments
• Demonstrated ability to lead change based on sound change principles and effective relationship-building with a high tolerance for ambiguity
• Flexibility and the ability to adjust to changing environments and expectations
• Demonstrated ability to recognize knowledge gaps and seek out resources to achieve deliverables
• Self-directed and takes initiative with the ability to work independently and interdependently in order to meet deadlines
• Team focused and willing to compromise to support the achievement of the collective goals
• Well-developed critical thinking skills and ability to problem-solve
• Ability to research, monitor, and analyze data for use in decision making and recommendations
• Demonstrated skills in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio), and comfort in using technology for leading virtual meetings
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills including group facilitation, stakeholder engagement and ability to present project and quality improvement initiatives at local, provincial, and national conferences as opportunities arise
• Experience with feedback systems, benchmarking, practice facilitation, coaching and continuous quality improvement methodologies.
