This is your exciting opportunity to work on a fast-paced acute medical inpatient unit. You will help to advance the unit’s values of:
Collaborative practice, Full scope of practice, Patient and family centered care and evidence-based practice. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide patient and family focused nursing care while working in a collaborative care service delivery model. The Health Care Aid provides patient care services as a regulated worker under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
This position is responsible for performing tasks related to activities of daily living and other specific procedures on the nursing unit. Heavy lifting, as well as repetitive movements are necessary during the course of performing duties on this unit. You will have the unique opportunity to work in a collaborative care service delivery model (CoAct).
Description:
As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary team, providing personal assistance by supporting activities of daily living and delivering support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this role, you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers across the continuum of care in home, community, and health care facilities.
You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs; assist with organized activities or programs; and observe and report on patients' mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under the supervision of a regulated health professional, you will assist in maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors, while supporting effective communication with patients and health care professionals.

Until a new hire provides proof of HCA certification, they will be paid at the uncertified pay grade in accordance with the AUPE AUX Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications Active or eligible for registration or practice permit with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) as a Health Care Aide, along with proof of education or completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire.

Required Qualifications Must have already one of the Alberta Health Services (AHS) Health Care Aide (HCA) competency requirements.
Preferred Qualifications One year experience (within the last 3 years) in acute care medical unit preferred. Experience working with sensory and cognitively impaired older adults. Experience working with core elements of CoACT. Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training. Recent completion, within the last 5 years, of See the Person. Up to date with all Required Organizational Learning (ROL) courses.
