Help shape how healthcare is delivered across Alberta.
The Clinical Appropriateness team is seeking an experienced and collaborative Senior Consultant to advance initiatives that improve the quality, value, and appropriateness of care across the acute care system. This is a unique opportunity to work at a provincial level, partnering with clinicians, operational leaders, patients, researchers, and health system partners to address healthcare overuse, underuse, misuse, and unwarranted clinical variation.
Reporting to the Director, Clinical Appropriateness, the successful candidate will play a key role in identifying opportunities to improve patient care and health system performance through evidence-informed practice change, quality improvement, implementation, and evaluation. You will help lead complex initiatives that translate evidence into action, support the adoption of leading practices, and contribute to a healthcare system that delivers the right care, to the right patient, at the right time.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with complex healthcare challenges, building strong relationships, bringing diverse perspectives together, and translating data, evidence, and stakeholder input into meaningful improvements. The successful candidate will join a dynamic provincial team committed to improving healthcare quality, optimizing resource use, and advancing sustainable, patient-centered care for Albertans.
Working collaboratively with physicians, clinicians, operational leaders, provincial programs, and system partners, the Senior Consultant supports the assessment and advancement of opportunities to improve healthcare quality, patient outcomes, and resource stewardship through the application of evidence, data, stakeholder engagement, quality improvement, and implementation approaches.
Key responsibilities include leading and supporting complex improvement initiatives; facilitating stakeholder engagement and consensus-building processes; conducting evidence reviews, environmental scans, and analyses to support decision-making and improvement initiatives; translating evidence and data into actionable recommendations; supporting implementation and evaluation activities; and developing reports, presentations, briefing materials, and strategic recommendations for leaders and decision-makers.
The Senior Practice Consultant applies expertise in quality improvement, implementation science, change management, and healthcare transformation to address issues related to healthcare utilization, appropriateness, and unwarranted variation in care. The role requires strong systems thinking, political acuity, and the ability to influence without direct authority while working across organizational and professional boundaries.
The successful candidate demonstrates exceptional communication, facilitation, and relationship management skills, and is able to guide complex projects from concept through implementation while balancing multiple priorities in a dynamic healthcare environment.
