Job Description:

Position Overview

The Business Analyst will work closely with business stakeholders, IT teams, and project managers to deliver IR (Information Resources) initiatives for a leading utility organization. The role involves supporting projects across SAO (Service and Operations), utility  (Digital Web Platforms), and Maximo (Asset Management System). The analyst will be responsible for gathering requirements, analyzing business processes, supporting solution design, and ensuring successful implementation of technology solutions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • 1. Requirements Gathering & Analysis
    • Engage with business units (Generation, Transmission, Distribution, Customer Experience, Asset Management, Field Operations) to identify needs for SAO, Digital Web Platform, and projects.
    • Conduct workshops and process walkthroughs.
    • Document business requirements, functional specifications, and user stories.
    • Analyze existing processes and recommend improvements aligned with utility operations.
  • 2. Project Delivery & Support
    • Work as a bridge between business stakeholders and technical teams (developers, architects, QA).
    • Support IR-led enhancement projects related to:
    • SAO – service operations workflows, incident & outage processes.
    • Digital Website – CMS (Content Management System) enhancements, self-service customer journeys, website integrations.
    • Maximo – work management, asset lifecycle, preventive maintenance.
    • Assist in creating solution design options and evaluating feasibility.
  • 3. Process Mapping & Documentation
    • Create as-is and to-be process maps using tools like Visio or equivalent.
    • Document data flows, system interactions, and integration touchpoints.
    • Maintain project artifacts in compliance with corporate standards.
  • 4. Testing & Quality Assurance
    • Develop test plans, test cases, and acceptance criteria.
    • Support UAT with business users.
    • Log defects, track resolutions, and ensure quality of delivered solutions.
  • 5. Stakeholder Management
    • Communicate project updates, risks, and issues to leadership and project managers.
    • Facilitate alignment between cross-functional teams.
    • Coordinate with vendors or external partners, especially for Maximo enhancements.
  • 6. Change Management & Training
    • Support change management activities, including readiness assessments and communication.
    • Prepare training materials and conduct end-user training sessions.
    • Ensure smooth adoption of system changes across business teams.
Required Qualifications Education
  • Bachelor's degree in business, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.
Experience
  • 6 to 8 years of Business Analyst experience (utility or energy industry preferred).
  • Experience working on enterprise applications such as:
  • CMS/website platforms (e.g., Digital Platform or similar customer-facing websites).
  • Operational systems (SAO or equivalent outage/operations systems).
Technical Skills
  • Strong documentation and requirements of analysis skills.
  • Knowledge of asset management processes in utilities.
  • Understanding website technologies, customer experience flows, and integrations.
  • Familiarity with SQL queries, data analysis, and system configuration (optional but nice to have).
  • Proficiency with Visio, JIRA, Azure Dev Ops, or similar tools.
Soft Skills
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in Canadian utilities (ENMAX, EPCOR, Fortis, BC Hydro, etc.).
  • Knowledge of ITIL processes (Incident, Change, Problem).
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
  • Understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements in the utility sector.
