Database & API Administrator

Calgary, AB

Job Purpose

At Network Innovations, our technical ecosystem relies on seamless data flow and rock-solid security. We are seeking a skilled Database & API Administrator to take ownership of our critical database infrastructure and ERP API integrations. Based out of our Calgary office, you will work under the general day-to-day direction of our Business Systems Manager to play a vital role in both backend optimization and real-world service delivery.

You will be responsible for ensuring our billing and activations databases are secure and performing at their peak, while simultaneously managing the telecommunications provisioning that keeps our customers connected. Duties and Responsibilities
  • Install, configure, and maintain database management systems (DBMS) such as SQL Server, Postgre

    SQL, MySQL, or Oracle.
  • Continuously monitor database performance and tune queries, indexes, and configurations to ensure optimal speed and efficiency.
  • Develop and implement backup strategies and disaster recovery plans to prevent data loss and ensure business continuity.
  • Manage user access, permissions, and encryption to protect sensitive data and ensure compliance with security policies.
  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and high availability through proper design, replication, and failover mechanisms.
  • Collaborate with IT, developers, and analysts to design efficient database structures, schemas, and data models.
  • Diagnose and resolve database issues, including downtime, slow queries, and system errors.
  • Monitor storage and system usage trends to plan for future growth and scale databases as needed.
  • Automate routine database tasks such as backups, updates, and monitoring using scripts and tools.
  • Maintain documentation of database systems, procedures, and policies, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Design and provide custom reports to management, automate organizational tasks, and coordinate with other developers to ensure a mutual understanding of systems and timeline requirements.
  • Process provisioning tasks including activations, deactivations, plan changes, suspensions, and configuration updates.
  • Process billing tasks, including invoicing and end-of-month cycle closes.
  • Respond to service requests for additions, moves, and changes by preparing and completing telecom work orders while maintaining strict service level timelines.
  • Set up notifications related to usage as well as suspensions upon request.
  • Monitor internal provisioning systems, report any abnormalities to the Business Systems Manager, and manage follow-through communication on open carrier escalations and provisioning.
  • Participate in system and technology meetings, and assist with other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, with 3–5 years of experience in Database Administration and API integration.
  • Proficient in SQL (Postgre

    SQL, MySQL, Linked SQL Services), relational schema design, adapting stored procedures, and advanced Microsoft Excel.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working independently and dependably in a fast-paced corporate environment, with the flexibility to work occasional evening hours as needed.
  • Strong organization, detail orientation, innovative problem-solving, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A willingness to embrace and live the core values of Network Innovations.
  • Asset (Nice-to-Have):
    Experience with Net Suite ERP, Telecom activations/billing, or Power BI knowledge.
Working Conditions

This position typically operates in a professional office environment. Standard office hours are 8am to 5pm, however, work outside of regular office hours and occasional travel will be required. This role routinely uses standard office equipment and software.
