A leading Canadian organization in the utilities / energy sector is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to drive complex, cross-functional initiatives across application development and enhancement programs. This is a long-term contract role with strong potential for conversion to permanent employment.
Location & Work Model- Calgary, Canada (Local candidates only)
- Hybrid:
Minimum 2 days onsite per week - Long-term contract (12 months) with intent to convert to perm after ~6 months
- Define and confirm project scope with stakeholders and ensure alignment on requirements
- Develop detailed project plans including scope, schedule, resources, and communication strategies
- Identify stakeholders and establish governance structure
- Build risk management plans and initial project roadmaps
- Lead end-to-end project execution across multiple work streams
- Manage delivery using waterfall and hybrid-agile methodologies
- Ensure high-quality project outputs including charters, change documentation, and deliverables
- Facilitate communication across technical and business stakeholders
- Manage project priorities, dependencies, and delivery checkpoints
- Identify and resolve issues and delivery roadblocks
- Track project progress, milestones, and performance metrics
- Maintain accurate documentation of scope, schedule, risks, and status updates
- Manage change control, resource allocation, and budget tracking
- Maintain and update risk registers and dependency mapping
- Provide regular reporting to senior leadership and program governance teams
- Ensure formal project closure following organizational standards
- Capture lessons learned and drive process improvements
- Contribute to continuous improvement within the PMO / delivery framework
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or related discipline (or equivalent experience)
- PMP or PRINCE2 certification required
- 8+ years of end-to-end project management experience
- Strong understanding of waterfall and hybrid-agile delivery methodologies
- Hands‑on experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Project deliverables, charters, change logs, etc.)
- Experience in resource planning and budget management across multiple projects
- Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent initiatives
- Experience using Azure Dev Ops Boards (as PM / Scrum Master or Product-facing role)
- Ability to create and manage application enhancement roadmaps (low to medium complexity)
- Experience drafting and managing Statements of Work (SOWs)
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills without formal authority
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and coordination abilities
- Experience in regulated industries (utilities preferred)
- Exposure to electricity transmission or energy sector projects
- Strong background in enterprise delivery environments
