About the position
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police Communications Technology Program (Com Tech) in Alberta is seeking technical professionals to support a wide range of information technology (IT) and electronics and communications infrastructure. The unit provides life‑cycle management and field support for Alberta First Responders Radio Communication System user equipment, vehicular‑based equipment such as mobile work stations, in‑car video systems and cellular phones and data modems, as well as technical support for two operational communication (9‑1‑1) centres and the Critical Incident Program.
DutiesProvide field support and technical assistance for IT and communications equipment in a law‑enforcement environment. Assist in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and optimisation of radio, wireless, data, and telephone systems. Prepare technical documentation such as architecture diagrams, user requirements and build instructions.
Conditions of employment- Enhanced Reliability Status with Top Secret security clearance (or required at a later date)
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence
- Willingness to travel within Alberta, including remote areas, overnight, and by helicopter or fixed‑wing aircraft
- Ability to work overtime, be on standby or adjust schedule with little notice to meet operational requirements
- Capacity to work in inclement and uncomfortable weather conditions
- Capability to perform technical support in the field and to crawl and work in confined spaces to install equipment
- Physical strength to lift heavy or awkward items up to 23 kilograms
- Comfortable working at heights
- Travel within Alberta, including remote areas, overnight, and by aircraft
- Maintain a valid Class 5 driver’s licence
- Work overtime, standby or with short notice as required by operations
- Perform duties in inclement and uncomfortable weather conditions
- Provide technical support to frontline policing operations in the field

- Graduated from a two‑year post‑secondary program in computer science, information technology, information management or a related field.
- Experience with IT and electronics or communications infrastructure solutions in a technical capacity.
- Experience preparing technical documentation such as architecture/exchange diagrams, data‑flow diagrams, procedures, use cases and build documents.
- Proficient with IT and electronic test tools (e.g., Wire Shark, multimeters, spectrum analyzers, protocol analyzers, power meters, oscilloscopes, signal generators).
- Experience in analysing, designing, modifying or troubleshooting electronic circuitry.
- Experience with wireless communications systems and equipment (e.g., Wi‑Fi, cellular, P25 radio).
- Knowledge of fundamental IT infrastructure theory and practical application.

- Diploma or degree specialising in IP network design, configuration and maintenance.
- ITIL Foundations (or higher) certification.
- Network+ or Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification.
- Certification from a provincial professional organisation recognised by the Canadian Technology Accreditation Board (e.g., Certified Engineering Technologist – CET, Applied Science Technologist – AScT, Professional Technologist – PTech).
- Experience supporting telephony and IT infrastructure in a 9‑1‑1 call‑center environment.
- Experience managing incidents using a service‑management ticketing system.
