Nutrien is looking for a Director, Data Governance to build and lead our enterprise data governance program—strengthening data ownership, quality, and controls across key data domains so Nutrien can confidently scale analytics, AI, and digital products. Reporting to the Sr Director, Data Office, you will partner across business, technology, and risk functions to set standards, enable adoption, and ensure regulatory, and policy requirements are met globally.
This role will ensure critical data at Nutrien is trusted, consistent, and compliant across all data domains and business areas. You will operate at the intersection of business, data, technology, and risk—enabling scalable analytics, AI, and digital products globally—while ensuring regulatory and policy requirements are met and maintained.
What You'll Do:
Support the design and implementation of Nutrien’s global data governance framework across core data domains (e.g., product, customer, supplier, location, and asset)
Define enterprise standards for master/reference data domains and critical data elements
Drive the implementation of governance ownership and accountability across all data domains and lines of business, partnering with domain leaders to clarify roles, responsibilities, and adoption of governance practices
Balance enterprise consistency with business needs, regulatory requirements, and regional/functional nuances
Facilitate and support enterprise and business unit data governance forums (e.g., councils and working groups) ensuring alignment, issue escalation, and effective decision making
Drive continuous improvement of governance practices as the data and AI landscape evolves
Partner with IT and to define the enterprise data quality strategy, including standards, issue management, root‑cause analysis, observability and remediation
Operationalize data governance policies and standards to ensure alignment with global and regional regulatory requirements (e.g., data privacy, residency, and confidentiality), working closely with Legal, Risk, and IT partners
Lead a team delivering master data maintenance for multiple data domains at Nutrien
Partner with Legal, Risk, and Compliance to support audits, client due diligence, and regulatory inquiries related to data and analytics
Lead data governance initiatives and change adoption efforts, influencing stakeholders and enabling consistent governance practices across domains and functions
What You'll Bring:
Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
15+ years of experience in data governance, data management, master data, or related enterprise data roles
5+ years of experience in a managerial role with demonstrated executive‑level influence and stakeholder management, including leading governance councils and driving adoption across a matrixed organization
Proven experience building and launching a data governance program from the ground up
Experience operating in a global, matrixed organization with regional regulatory complexity
Deep knowledge of data governance concepts, frameworks, and best practices (e.g., DAMA‑DMBOK)
Practical experience with ERP systems (specifically SAP), data hierarchies, and how master data is created and managed within large enterprises
Experience collaborating across multiple business areas and centralized functions within a large enterprise
Proven people leadership experience, with the ability to build, mentor, and scale a high‑performing team and stewardship community
