As a Property Subject Matter Expert, this role will provide technical underwriting expertise and guidance to Middle Market underwriters, to support the achievement of our business strategy. The successful candidate will partner with Middle Market leaders and underwriters to implement and monitor strategic and tactical initiatives to drive the growth of the portfolio to achieve business objectives. The role will implement and communicate underwriting strategy, including guidelines, appetite, product, pricing and process, employing best practices across all regions.

What you will do
Provide expert underwriting guidance in support of business strategy, proposition development, and learning initiatives.
Ensure adherence to underwriting frameworks, sharing timely updates and key learnings.
Oversee the Property portfolio by monitoring performance, identifying insights and opportunities, and driving actions to optimize results.
Manage underwriting referrals, demonstrating deep expertise in Property perils.
Implement and advance underwriting strategy and guidelines aligned with technical standards, business objectives, and best practices.
Continually assess risk appetite and product suitability, making adjustments as needed.
Analyze property rates, rating methodologies, and pricing strategies to offer competitive solutions and achieve optimal outcomes.
Collaborate with actuarial teams to confirm pricing models, and implement enhancements.
Develop and deliver technical training in partnership with learning & development teams.
Contribute to process, policy, or product development. Operate within Zurich’s risk, underwriting, and governance policies, translating them into actionable guidelines.
Address technical queries from internal and external customers, ensuring compliance with policies and regulations.
Participate in underwriting reviews to identify trends, opportunities and contribute to action plans.
Support compliance activities, including regulatory reviews and related queries.
What you bring to the table
Bachelor's Degree and minimum 8 years of commercial P&C underwriting experience demonstrating strong technical ability across a breadth of industries.
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Underwriting area.
Additional qualifications
Strong analytical and decision-making skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Proven ability to lead projects and initiatives
Experience with compliance and regulatory requirements
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Fluency in both spoken and written English is required to facilitate communication with internal and external stakeholders outside Quebec.
Compensation for roles at Zurich varies depending on a wide array of factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. The salary range provided is a nationwide market range and has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location where the position may be filled. As required by local law, Zurich provides in good faith a reasonable range of compensation for roles.
Compensation may exceed the range listed based on the evaluation of skillset and experience. The starting salary range for this position is $140,000 - $185,000.
