Senior Director Commercial Underwriting

Lead commercial property and casualty underwriting operations as the Senior Director in Calgary. Oversee teams in Calgary and Edmonton while driving portfolio performance and employee development.

Our client is searching for a Director, Commercial Underwriting to spearhead underwriting strategies across the Prairies. You will manage two Underwriting Managers and an Executive Underwriter, ensuring high-quality standards in both teams. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in complex risks, ideally within construction or oil and gas sectors, to fuel continued growth and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead teams in Calgary and Edmonton with strategic oversight

• Provide coaching and development to underwriting professionals

• Influence underwriting quality and portfolio performance

• Support senior stakeholders across multiple offices

• Manage complex underwriting matters effectively

Requirements:

• 10+ years in commercial property and casualty underwriting

• Direct leadership experience guiding teams

• Strong technical knowledge of complex commercial risks

• Relationship-building and communication skills

• CIP designation considered an asset
