Role Description The Heavy Haul Dispatcher is a full‑time, on‑site role based in Rocky View County, AB. This role is responsible for planning, scheduling, and dispatching trucks and drivers for heavy haul, over‑dimensional, and project‑based freight moves across North America. Day‑to‑day tasks include coordinating with drivers and project managers, monitoring load progress, adjusting plans to address delays or changing conditions, and ensuring regulatory and safety requirements are met.
The Heavy Haul Dispatcher communicates with customers and internal stakeholders to confirm load details, timelines, permits, and route approvals, and maintains accurate records in dispatch and transportation management systems. The role also involves problem‑solving in real time, optimizing equipment utilization, and supporting continuous improvement in dispatch processes and customer service.
Qualifications
- Experience in heavy haul, over‑dimensional, or specialized trucking dispatch, with strong skills in load planning, routing, and scheduling.
- Knowledge of transportation regulations, including provincial, federal, cross‑border, and permit requirements for oversized and heavy loads.
- Proficiency with dispatch or transportation management software, GPS tracking tools, and standard office applications (e.g., Excel, email, digital documentation).
- Strong communication, coordination, and customer service skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with drivers, project managers, and clients.
- Demonstrated ability to multitask, prioritize under time pressure, and solve operational issues quickly and safely.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation, load instructions, and compliance records.
- Familiarity with cross‑border and international logistics processes is an asset.
- Previous experience in trucking, logistics, or freight operations; dispatch experience in a similar environment preferred.
- Availability to work full‑time on‑site in Rocky View County, AB, with flexibility for occasional extended hours or after‑hours coordination as needed.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; post‑secondary education in logistics, supply chain, or a related field is an asset.
