The Operations under Faculty of Kinesiology is currently seeking a Full‑time Regular Facility Operator. The Operations Unit is responsible for maintaining and operating a 450,000 square foot multi‑functional recreational facility plus outdoor playing fields, ensuring seamless operations for diverse user groups. Open 362 days a year, the Faculty of Kinesiology facilities serve approximately 2,000,000 visitors annually. The state‑of‑the‑art kinesiology facilities include a diverse range of sports and athletic spaces, teaching and learning spaces, research spaces, clinical space, as well as offices and boardrooms.

Key Responsibilities Facility Maintenance and Operations
  • Ensures that maintenance projects are completed in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Operates specialized power equipment including electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic equipment; maintains the equipment and performs regular repairs or adjustments as required.
  • Operates cleaning equipment, such as sweepers, to maintain cleanliness of outdoor fields and indoor spaces. Performs seasonal cleaning and maintenance tasks, including artificial turf cleaning.
  • Conducts routine inspections to identify and address maintenance concerns for outdoor and indoor facilities.
  • Maintains and troubleshoots systems, such as retractable bleachers.
Event and Facility Use Support
  • Supports event and booking readiness by preparing spaces, setting up and taking down equipment, performing pre‑ and post‑event checks, addressing light cleaning requirements that arise from events, and responding to operational issues during events. All work is completed in accordance with applicable safety codes, Occupational Health and Safety requirements, and University policies.
  • Provides set up and take down requirements for events hosted in the Kinesiology facilities. Collaborates with event organizers to ensure smooth operations, efficiently and professionally addressing any operations needs and facility concern requests.
Client Service
  • Responds with expediency to service calls from faculty, staff and clients.
  • Fosters positive working relationships with faculty, staff, co‑workers and clients, creating a welcoming and supportive environment.
  • Provides a positive experience for clients using the facilities.
  • Manages and troubleshoots conflict with facility users in a professional and effective manner.
Safety and Security
  • Ensures that the facilities and equipment are maintained on a regular basis to provide a safe environment for staff and clients.
  • Monitors and upholds security protocols for the facility, safeguarding people and property. Communicates with facility users if unsafe activities are observed.
  • Uses appropriate PPE, as required for each task.
Team Collaboration
  • Provides guidance and mentorship for task execution and processes to part‑time staff.
  • Works collaboratively with other facility operators, trades, and contractors to ensure the smooth operation of the facility.
Qualifications / Requirements
  • A high school diploma is required. A recreational facility management certificate, certification in a trade, or other related certification is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years experience working in a comparable role is required. Work experience in construction or industrial environments would be beneficial.
  • A combination of education and work experience may be considered.
  • First Aid/AED/CPR/WHMIS Certification or ability to obtain it is required.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks is required for success in the role. This may include lifting, carrying and moving objects weighing up to 50 lbs, extended periods of walking, bending, kneeling, or pushing/pulling objects, and working in various environmental conditions including outdoor weather.
  • Experience working safely and comfortably at various heights using manlift, scaffolding and ladder, and with power tools and other machinery is preferred.
  • A valid Class 5 driver’s license (cannot be a graduated license) with proven good driving record (abstract required).
