Job Title: Maintenance Planner

Location: Cascades Containerboard Packaging, Calgary, AB

Job Type: Permanent Full-Time

Salary: $67,000 – $97,000 per annum

Position Overview: This position is responsible for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the maintenance department by planning, scheduling, and coordinating maintenance activities. This role involves detailed planning of maintenance tasks, ensuring equipment reliability, and maximizing production uptime. The Maintenance Planner will work closely with maintenance technicians, plant buyer, maintenance manager, production teams, and vendors to maintain the facility’s operational standards while minimizing downtime.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintenance Planning:

  • Develop and maintain preventive and predictive maintenance schedules for all machinery and equipment in the facility.
  • Coordinate and plan corrective maintenance based on priority, ensuring minimal disruption to production.
  • Coordinate planned downtimes to reduce mean time between failures and minimize interference with production schedules.
  • Ensure all maintenance work orders are properly prepared, including detailed job instructions, necessary parts, tools, and manpower.
  • Schedule maintenance activities to align with production schedules and reduce equipment downtime.
  • Work with production teams to ensure maintenance activities are performed during planned shutdowns or off-peak times.

Inventory Management:

  • Maintain an accurate inventory of parts and supplies needed for maintenance tasks.
  • Coordinate with purchasing to ensure timely procurement of parts and materials.
  • Identify and manage critical spare parts to avoid potential downtime due to part shortages.

Work Order Management:

  • Generate, prioritize, and manage work orders in the maintenance management system.
  • Ensure timely closure of work orders and proper documentation of maintenance activities.
  • Track and report on work order completion rates, labor hours, and equipment downtime.

Equipment Reliability:

  • Collaborate with maintenance and engineering teams to analyze equipment performance and failure data.
  • Recommend improvements to maintenance practices, procedures, and equipment design to enhance reliability and reduce breakdowns.
  • Monitor and track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to maintenance effectiveness, such as Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) and Mean Time to Repair (MTTR).

Safety & Compliance:

  • Ensure all maintenance activities are conducted in accordance with company safety standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain records of safety inspections and compliance with OSHA standards.
  • Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement within the maintenance team.

Collaboration & Communication:

  • Work closely with production supervisors and managers to ensure maintenance activities are aligned with production goals.
  • Coordinate with external contractors and vendors for specialized maintenance services or repairs.
  • Provide regular updates to management on maintenance progress, equipment health, and project status.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Maintenance Management, or a related field preferred.

Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience in maintenance planning or a related role, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in corrugated manufacturing or paper industry is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of SAP maintenance modules
  • Strong knowledge of maintenance planning processes, CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System), and equipment reliability practices.
