The ProgramThe Maintenance team is responsible for ensuring all Hull Services buildings, property and grounds are well maintained and in safe and proper working order. This department is critical to the daily operation of our programs in which our employees work and children and youth live.
The PositionWe are looking for a temporary full time Maintenance Worker for a one year contract to support the maintenance team. Reporting to the Maintenance Team Lead, the Maintenance Worker performs a wide variety of skilled and semiskilled maintenance and repair work requiring a working knowledge of basic carpentry, plumbing and electrical work. The Maintenance Worker responds to routine, urgent, and emergency maintenance needs involving equipment, plumbing, physical structures and fixtures of the Agency.
- Based on a 37.5 hour work week with scheduled lunches and coffee breaks.
- Job involves moderate to heavy physical activity including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing ladders, working at heights, kneeling, crouching, and exposure to varying indoor and outdoor weather conditions.
- Job entails “on-call” responsibilities and availability to work after hours and on weekends as scheduled.
- Flexibility, ability and willingness to learn and perform work related to multiple specialized trades.
- Perform maintenance work in accordance with agency health and safety procedures, applicable regulations, professional standards, and individual training and competency levels while maintaining a safe, respectful, and professional presence in occupied program environments.
- Perform general building maintenance, repairs, minor renovations, groundskeeping, snow removal and seasonal maintenance activities including carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical fixture replacement, appliance repair, seasonal maintenance, and other related tasks within the scope of training and competency.
- Coordinate with qualified contractors for specialized work as required.
- Perform preventative maintenance on building systems, equipment, tools, and related assets, maintaining all equipment and work areas in a safe, clean, organized, and service-ready condition.
- Perform pipe fitting, soldering and welding tasks within the scope of training and competency.
- Handle pest control (insect/rodent) issues with commercially available deterrents or coordinating with appropriate professionals (e.g., Cal-Rid Exterminators).
- Inspect buildings, equipment, and systems to identify safety issues on a regular basis. Document monthly inspections on the appropriate form.
- Respond to maintenance requests through the agency work order system (Worx Hub) and maintain accurate records of work completed, inspections, preventative maintenance activities, materials used, and follow-up requirements.
- Provide operational support through deliveries, transportation of tools and materials, event support activities, and other general maintenance-related duties as assigned.
