General Laborer – Cleaner Job Description
The General Laborer – Cleaner maintains a clean, safe, and organized facility by performing a full range of janitorial and housekeeping duties. This role includes sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors, dusting surfaces, cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, lunchrooms, and offices, emptying trash and recycling, replenishing supplies, and following all safety protocols. You use specialized cleaning equipment safely, adhere to established cleaning schedules, report maintenance issues promptly, and ensure all work areas remain neat, orderly, and sanitary.
Responsibilities- Sweep, mop, and vacuum a variety of floor surfaces, and perform floor maintenance such as waxing and polishing as required.
- Dust and wipe down furniture, shelves, countertops, fixtures, and other surfaces to keep areas clean and tidy.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, including sinks, toilets, showers, and countertops, and replenish soap, paper towels, and toilet paper.
- Maintain lunchroom areas by cleaning appliances, countertops, sinks, tables, and floors to ensure a hygienic environment.
- Empty trash and recycling bins throughout the facility, replace liners, and manage waste disposal to maintain cleanliness.
- Handle heavy lifting associated with custodial and general labor tasks in a safe and efficient manner.
- Use specialized cleaning equipment and tools in accordance with safety guidelines and manufacturer instructions.
- Follow established cleaning schedules and checklists to ensure all assigned areas are serviced consistently and on time.
- Report maintenance issues, safety hazards, and facility concerns promptly to the appropriate contacts.
- Maintain clean, organized, and tidy work areas, including storage spaces and janitorial closets.
- Experience performing general labor, cleaning, janitorial, custodial, or housekeeping duties in a facility setting.
- Demonstrated ability to sweep, mop, vacuum, and perform floor maintenance, including potential waxing and polishing.
- Skill in surface cleaning and dusting of furniture, shelves, countertops, and fixtures.
- Proficiency in restroom sanitation, including cleaning and disinfecting sinks, toilets, showers, and countertops, and replenishing supplies.
- Ability to clean and maintain lunchroom areas, including appliances, countertops, sinks, and floors.
- Capacity for heavy lifting and physically demanding custodial work.
- Good communication skills to interact effectively with coworkers and supervisors.
- Ability to follow cleaning schedules, safety protocols, and written or verbal instructions.
Skills & Qualifications
- Willingness to complete a four-day orientation, including three days in the classroom and a fourth day dedicated to on-the-job evaluation and training.
- Ability to successfully pass the on-the-job evaluation required at the end of orientation.
- Reliability and punctuality for overnight shift work.
- Attention to detail and pride in maintaining a clean and orderly environment.
- Flexibility to be cross‑trained in additional tasks and responsibilities as needed.

You work in a brand‑new, clean facility designed to support efficient and safe operations. The role is based on an overnight schedule from approximately 9:45 p.m. to 6:15 a.m., Monday through Friday, offering consistent full‑time hours. Each shift includes eight hours of paid work, with two paid 15‑minute shuttle periods, one paid 15‑minute rest break, and one unpaid 30‑minute meal break built into the schedule.
