About the Role
We are looking for a Facilities Technician Lead to join our team and play a key role in maintaining the safety, functionality, and operational integrity of our childcare centres.
This is a hands-on, varied role that combines building and facility maintenance, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, contractor coordination, and overall facilities oversight. The successful candidate will be someone who enjoys fixing things, solving problems, working independently, and taking ownership of ensuring our locations are well maintained and operating effectively.
You will work across multiple locations and will have the opportunity to be directly involved in everything from completing repairs and installations to coordinating specialized contractors and supporting new centre openings.
Key Responsibilities
Hands-On Maintenance & Repairs
- Complete routine maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, installations, and preventative maintenance at company locations.
- Identify and address facility deficiencies before they become larger issues.
- Perform hands-on work using common hand and power tools.
- Complete minor repairs and maintenance where appropriate and within your skills and experience.
- Ensure maintenance work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
- Recognize when work requires a qualified or licensed trade and coordinate the appropriate contractor or service provider.
Facilities Oversight
- Complete monthly facility inspections at each location in partnership with Centre Directors.
- Monitor and manage the company’s maintenance ticketing system and ensure requests are appropriately prioritized and addressed.
- Follow up on outstanding maintenance items and ensure issues are resolved in a timely manner.
- Coordinate and oversee contractors and service providers, including scheduling, site access, work completion, and follow-up.
- Maintain awareness of the overall condition and operational needs of each facility.
- For locations outside reasonable driving distance, complete virtual inspections as appropriate, with an in-person inspection required at least every six months.
Contractor & Service Provider Coordination
- Obtain and review quotes for maintenance and repair work as required.
- Coordinate contractors for specialized, licensed, or larger-scale projects.
- Monitor contractor work to ensure it is completed according to expectations, timelines, and safety requirements.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with reliable contractors and service providers.
Vehicle Fleet Support
- Assist with the company vehicle fleet as required, including reviewing repair quotes and coordinating vehicle maintenance and repairs.
- Assist with the sale or disposal of company vehicles when required.
- While the Facilities Technician Lead will support fleet-related matters, they will not have direct responsibility for the overall vehicle fleet.
- Support the opening of new childcare centres by coordinating and working with various trades and contractors.
- Assist with final facility setup, installations, repairs, and other hands-on work required to prepare a centre for opening.
- Help ensure facilities are ready, functional, safe, and operational prior to opening.
The ideal candidate is someone who is mechanically inclined, hands-on, organized, and able to work independently. You don't need to be an expert in every trade. we're looking for someone who can confidently tackle a variety of maintenance tasks while knowing when a job requires a qualified professional.
