Zurich Canada is seeking a strategic and inspiring leader to drive profitable growth across the West Region. As VP Middle Market – West Region, you will lead underwriting teams in Alberta and British Columbia, guiding them to deliver outstanding results and customer experience. This role reports to the Head of Middle Market Canada and is based in BC or AB. The candidate will develop and drive the Middle Market book of business across the West Region, cultivate broker/customer relationships, and lead underwriting managers to build a profitable portfolio and strategic relationships both externally and internally.

This is a hybrid work opportunity and requires strong teamwork, communication, vision, and results-oriented execution. The role emphasizes collaboration, talent development, and leadership to influence and drive business results.

• Achieve key performance targets and financial budgets for the underwriting region in line with objectives.
• Contribute to growth objectives aligned with the underwriting/business strategy.
• Develop a team of leaders and underwriters for success in the market.
• Analyze and support new and renewal business within delegated authority levels.
• Review underwriting processes and policies to ensure alignment with strategic objectives.
• Manage relationships with key stakeholders to identify opportunities for service improvement, ensuring commercial viability and customer satisfaction.
• Oversee development plans for underwriters to ensure capability and bench strength to drive results.
• Recommend and implement action plans with broker partners for profitable growth.
• Support the organization’s underwriting, sales and service culture.
• Contribute to building a strong culture and lead change initiatives.

• Bachelor’s Degree and 12+ years of experience in Underwriting, Market Facing and/or Risk Management within Commercial Insurance.
• 5+ years of people management experience.
• Advanced knowledge of Middle Market Property & Casualty lines and established broker relationships across the West region, Canada (preferred).
• Strong knowledge in strategic planning and execution, people leadership, relationship and negotiation skills, risk assessment, and underwriting principles and guidelines.

The starting salary range for this position is $180,000 - $220,000. Compensation varies by location, role, skill set, and experience in accordance with local law and company policy.
