The General Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, performance, and day-to-day operation of their Speeders location.
This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for ensuring the facility operates safely, efficiently, profitably, and consistently with Speeders standards. The General Manager leads the management team, develops employees, oversees labour and financial performance, maintains operational standards, and ensures guests receive an exceptional experience.
The General Manager is expected to understand all areas of the business and be actively involved in operations. Success in this role requires strong leadership, communication, accountability, organization, financial awareness, and the ability to lead a large team in a fast-paced entertainment environment.
The General Manager reports directly to Head Office and is responsible for ensuring company policies, procedures, and operational expectations are consistently implemented at their location.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Leadership & Management- Provide strong, consistent leadership to the entire location.
- Lead, support, coach, and hold the management team accountable.
- Set clear expectations and ensure managers understand their responsibilities and areas of ownership.
- Build a positive, professional, and team-focused workplace culture.
- Ensure the management team operates as one unified team rather than individual departments.
- Maintain open and consistent communication with Head Office.
- Participate in management meetings, training, and company initiatives.
- Follow through on direction, action items, and operational changes communicated by Head Office.
- Lead by example in professionalism, attitude, attendance, work ethic, and adherence to company policies.
- Be visible and actively involved in the operation rather than managing exclusively from an office.
- Step into operational positions when required to support the team and business.
- Oversee the overall daily operation of the facility.
- Ensure the location is properly prepared for opening, daily operations, events, peak periods, and closing.
- Ensure managers are effectively running the floor and appropriately positioned throughout the facility.
- Maintain awareness of business levels and adjust staffing and operations accordingly.
- Ensure all departments work together effectively, including Reception, Track/Pits, Attractions, Arcade, Food & Beverage, Events, and Maintenance.
- Ensure operational issues are identified and resolved quickly.
- Ensure equipment, attractions, and facility concerns are reported and followed through to completion.
- Maintain a clean, organized, professional, and guest-ready facility at all times.
- Take ownership of the location's overall financial performance.
- Understand and monitor sales, labour costs, overtime, expenses, and other key performance indicators.
- Review labour regularly and ensure staffing levels reflect actual business needs.
- Make timely staffing adjustments when business levels change.
- Minimize unnecessary overtime and ensure overtime is properly managed.
- Work with Head Office to identify opportunities to increase revenue and control expenses.
- Ensure managers understand the financial impact of their operational decisions.
- Protect company assets and ensure proper cash-handling and financial procedures are followed.
- Monitor location performance and take corrective action when targets are not being achieved.
- Ensure the location is appropriately staffed based on operational requirements.
- Participate in recruitment, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and employee development.
- Ensure new employees receive proper training before working independently.
- Ensure employees and managers understand Speeders policies, procedures, safety standards, and service expectations.
- Identify employees with leadership potential and support their development.
- Provide ongoing coaching and feedback rather than waiting for formal performance reviews.
- Address performance, attendance, conduct, and policy concerns promptly and consistently.
- Work with Head Office on disciplinary action, performance improvement plans, and terminations when required.
- Ensure scheduling supports both operational needs and responsible labour management.
- Develop a strong management team capable of successfully operating the facility without relying on one individual.
