Position: Plant Operator )

Position Summary

Plant Operator responsible for supporting daily asphalt plant production activities in a safe and efficient manner. Duties include milling asphalt and emulsion products, loading and offloading trucks and rail cars, product transfers, plant monitoring, site housekeeping, and general facility operations. The operator works closely with plant personnel to meet production demands, maintain operational reliability, and promote a safe and team‑oriented work environment.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Receive training on a variety of equipment; prior experience with mobile equipment is an asset but not required.
  • Perform routine monitoring of plant equipment, security checks (gates, doors, equipment), bulk liquid terminal operations, and associated above‑ground equipment.
  • Assist the team with general support tasks as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness of site, plant, and work areas.
  • Load bulk tankers and off‑load rail cars.
  • Demonstrate and execute safe work plans and job hazard analysis, including hot work procedures.
  • Handle and transport materials (asphalt) and equipment (drills, grinders). Use power tools and mobile power equipment such as forklifts and manlifts when needed.
  • Report equipment issues or unsafe conditions.
  • Take product samples and deliver them to the on‑site laboratory.
  • Lift up to 50lbs or use lifting mechanisms where required.
  • Learn and comply with rail car safety and securement regulations.
  • Follow supervisor instructions for manual labor tasks.
  • Enforce general safety practices, policies, and standards on site.
  • Perform general maintenance and cleaning tasks to keep the site safe and tidy.
  • Assist in setting up and taking down materials and equipment at job sites.
  • Complete CCOHS training as outlined by company and safety requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Valid Class5 driver’s license with a clean abstract; required for operating company vehicles and mobile equipment.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Experience in an operational or manufacturing environment is a strong asset.
  • Experience operating industrial plant equipment, process systems, mills, pumps, or transfer systems is an asset.
  • Experience as a plant operator, process operator, terminal operator, or similar role in an industrial setting is a strong asset.
  • Knowledge of industrial settings and awareness of process hazards.
  • Experience with asphalt/emulsion operations, product transfers, milling operations, or bulk liquid handling is an asset.
  • Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability is an asset.
  • Willingness to work under a comprehensive safety program.
  • Computer skills are an asset.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work in an industrial setting.
  • Reliable transportation and punctuality.
  • Ability to meet physical demands: standing for long periods, lifting heavy loads up to 40lbs.
  • Organized, self‑driven, and able to understand and execute oral and written instructions.
  • Independent worker who supports plant production and operational requirements.
  • Good hand‑eye coordination.
  • Familiarity with power tools and machinery is a plus.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Commitment to safety rules, policies, and practices.
  • Demonstrates a “can‑do” attitude.
  • A good sense of humor is considered a great asset.
