Structural Steel Fitter Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Structural Steel Fitter to join a busy fabrication team for the season, with potential for permanent employment. In this role, you will focus primarily on fitting structural steel skid packs with tight tolerances, while performing occasional welding using various cutting and fitting techniques. You will work from blueprints to lay out, assemble, and prepare structural components to meet quality and safety standards in a safe and well-organized shop environment.
Responsibilities- Fit structural steel components, primarily skid packs, to precise measurements and tight tolerances.
- Perform tack welding using flux core and MIG processes to secure components in place as required.
- Carry out occasional welding on structural steel in flat positions in accordance with shop standards.
- Read and interpret blueprints and drawings to determine layout, dimensions, and assembly requirements.
- Lay out and assemble structural steel components using tape measures and other measuring tools.
- Clean culpers off the beam line and ensure beams are properly prepared for fitting and assembly.
- Culp beams and prepare structural members for fitting and welding operations.
- Use hand and power tools, including grinders and cutting tools, to prepare and finish steel components.
- Inspect completed fits and welds for accuracy, alignment, and quality, making adjustments as needed.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area, following all safety procedures and shop guidelines.
- Perform other shop tasks as assigned when fitting work is limited or when required by production needs.

WorkEnvironment
This is a full‑time, on‑site role in a structural steel fabrication shop operating Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The majority of the work involves fitting structural steel, with some welding and general shop tasks as needed. You will work with structural steel skid packs, beam lines, and standard fabrication equipment such as welding machines, grinders, cutting tools, and measuring tools.
Reliable transportation is required. When fitting work is limited, you may be assigned other shop duties or, in some cases, sent home early depending on workload. The shop maintains a strong focus on safety and cleanliness, and standard industrial workwear appropriate for a fabrication environment is expected.
This is a Contract position based out of Calgary, AB.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $22.00 - $29.00/hr.
