Job Description
This role focuses on finishing custom wood furniture to a high standard by interpreting shop drawings, preparing surfaces, applying stains and lacquers, and ensuring every piece meets exacting quality expectations. You will work with both standard and custom woodworking projects in a clean, well-organized production environment, contributing directly to the final appearance and durability of each product.
Responsibilities
Read and interpret shop drawings and job instruction documents to understand project specifications and finishing requirements.
Visually inspect each wood piece before finishing, identifying and addressing sanding issues, defects, or scratches.
Prepare wood surfaces through sanding, grinding, and polishing to achieve a smooth, consistent finish.
Apply stain and lacquer to wood furniture according to specifications, using both hand tools and power tools.
Compare each finished product against approved samples to ensure a flawless color and finish match.
Safely stack or load finished and in-process products, maintaining organization and preventing damage.
Move products to designated drying areas and ensure they have adequate time and conditions for complete curing.
Inspect each finished piece after curing to confirm it meets all standards for exceptional quality and appearance.
Use tape measures and other measuring tools to verify dimensions and ensure accuracy in finishing work.
Follow safety procedures and best practices when working with finishing materials, tools, and equipment.
Essential Skills
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and job instruction documents.
Hands-on experience with sanding, including preparing wood surfaces for stain and lacquer.
Demonstrated experience applying wood stains and lacquers to furniture or wood products.
Proficiency in inspecting wood pieces for defects, scratches, and sanding issues and correcting them.
Skilled in using hand tools and power tools commonly used in woodworking and finishing.
Experience with grinding and polishing to achieve smooth and consistent finishes.
Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate color matching and high quality finished products.
Ability to use tape measures and other measuring tools accurately in a production environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Paint experience in a woodworking or similar finishing environment.
Custom woodworking experience, particularly with furniture or cabinetry.
Familiarity with wood stains, lacquers, and related finishing products.
Experience working in a production setting with both standard and custom projects.
Commitment to quality craftsmanship and continuous improvement in finishing techniques.

Work Environment
You will work in a well-lit, clean, and organized facility that is divided between production stations and cabinetmaking areas for custom work. The standard shift runs from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., providing consistent daytime hours. The role involves regular use of hand tools, power tools, and finishing equipment, as well as handling wood products throughout the finishing and drying process.
The environment supports precision woodworking and finishing, with clearly defined areas for production, custom projects, and drying.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Calgary, AB.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
