Job Title:
Tool Crib Attendant

Job Description

The Tool Crib Attendant plays a key role in organizing, cataloging, and maintaining a large inventory of tools and parts that support maintenance operations in a manufacturing environment. This position begins with a project-focused phase to establish structure and accuracy within the tool crib, and then transitions into a permanent role that ensures ongoing inventory control, kitting support, and continuous improvement of tool crib workflows.

Responsibilities
  • Research, identify, sort, and tag approximately 8,000 uncataloged items to create a clear and accurate inventory within the tool crib.
  • Identify and isolate broken, obsolete, or dead stock items and manage their formal disposition and scrap process.
  • Collaborate closely with procurement and related teams to provide detailed field-level information needed for master data setup, item taxonomy creation, and bin labeling.
  • Organize and support the rollout of visual bin labeling and the setup of storage infrastructure, including shelving and high-density drawers.
  • Conduct an initial wall-to-wall inventory audit to establish a reliable baseline of all items stored in the tool crib.
  • Implement and train others on standardized reception, tagging, and put-away processes to maintain ongoing inventory accuracy.
  • Establish and support an item checkout process that ensures tools and parts are tracked and accounted for in the inventory system.
  • Maintain and uphold established 5S standards, visual layouts, and storage organization systems within the tool crib.
  • Kit parts and tools for upcoming scheduled maintenance jobs to help reduce downtime and support efficient maintenance activities.
  • Assist with inbound and outbound logistics, including receiving incoming shipments, verifying deliveries, and managing item drop-offs for maintenance.
  • Conduct recurring cycle counts and execute checkout workflows to monitor inventory movements and maintain baseline accuracy in the ERP system.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts by participating in scrap reviews, master data adjustments, and workflow enhancements within the tool crib.
  • Work closely with the maintenance team to organize, maintain, and distribute thousands of components required for maintenance throughout the facility.
Essential Skills
  • Experience working in a tool crib, tool room, or similar inventory environment within manufacturing or logistics settings.
  • Familiarity with inventory control, kitting, and logistics processes in a manufacturing context.
  • Basic English literacy, including reading, writing, and comprehension, to support labeling, documentation, and coordination with team members.
  • Basic computer literacy, including the ability to navigate inventory databases, operate barcode scanners, and perform basic digital data entry.
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to identifying mechanical, electrical, and tooling parts while maintaining organized workspace standards.
  • Ability to stand, walk, lift, and maneuver inventory throughout the shift, including performing heavy lifting as needed.
  • Effective communication and people skills to collaborate with maintenance and other teams.
  • Self-starter mindset with a strong work ethic and the ability to work independently during intensive sorting and cataloging phases.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Lean manufacturing or exposure to lean principles is beneficial for supporting 5S and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Experience with computer-based inventory systems and ERP platforms is an advantage.
  • Prior experience in kitting parts and tools for maintenance or production activities is preferred.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with a focus on accuracy and organization.
