Position Overview
As part of the Policy and External Affairs team,the Media and Public Relations Coordinator will be responsible for the Chamber’s response to current affairs, governmentdecisions, and issues affecting the business community. This person will lead the Chamber’s public and media relations and engagement,including preparing press releases, statements and advisories,responding to media inquiries, and preparing Chamber spokespeople for interviews. They will leverage media opportunities, the news cycle,and public policy decisions to advance the Chamber’s goal to be a leading voice on business issues.

The Media and Public Relations Coordinator reports to the Vice President, Policy and External Affairs, and works closely withthe External Communications Specialist, policy and government relations team, liaises with the marketing team, and directly supports the President and CEO. The incumbent has a strong interest in public policy, operates well under pressure and with quick deadlines, is a strong communicator andstoryteller, and has experience in strategic communications and positioning.

Key Responsibilities
Communications, Media & Chamber Positioning

Leadthe Chamber’s public and media relations and engagement, including preparing and distributing press releases, statements and advisories, responding to media inquiries, developing key messages, andpreparing Chamber spokespeople for interviews.

Build relationships with media outlets to ensure traction on the Chamber’spolicy positions, including by securing media interviews,landing op-eds and facilitating media presence at Chamber events.

Advance the Chamber’s public relations strategy to communicate our public policywork and enhance our profile across government, the business community,and the public, including providing counsel on messaging and positioning on key organizational and public policy issues.

Support with the communication of public policy positions, papers, and electionplatforms, including through traditional media, digital platforms (social media) and presentations.

Support with developing scripts and presentations for public engagements forthe President & CEO and Executive Leadership Team.

Current Affairs

Monitorbusiness-related issues, government affairs includingtabled legislation, and membernews, and develop responses to themedia, government or membership as required.

Support the Calgary Chamber research and current affairs activities including issue identification, solution formulation and communicationresponses.
