Fund Development Officer

This is not a desk job. The Fund Development Officer owns Calgary's fundraising strategy from end to end. You write grants, walk into rooms, build relationships, and make the ask. You move people from interested to invested, and you understand that great fundraising is built on trust, not tactics. You will work closely with the Executive Director to grow Calgary's donor base, secure grant funding, cultivate corporate partners, and lead fundraising events that connect the community to our mission.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES   Grant Writing and Research     Identify, research, and pursue grant opportunities at the municipal, provincial, and federal levels
Write compelling, well-researched grant applications aligned with Mamas for Mamas programs and impact data
Manage deadlines, reporting requirements, and funder relationships for all active grants
Maintain a living grants calendar and opportunity pipeline
Donor Engagement and Stewardship     Build and manage relationships with individual donors, major gift prospects, and community stakeholders
Develop and execute a donor stewardship plan that keeps supporters engaged year-round
Conduct in-person and virtual meetings with prospective and existing donors
Track all donor interactions and pipeline activity in our CRM (Salesforce)
Corporate and Community Partnerships     Identify and approach Calgary-based businesses for sponsorship, in-kind support, and cause-marketing opportunities
Attend community events, networking functions, and sector gatherings to represent the organization and grow its presence
Build relationships with other nonprofits, community leaders, and funders across the Calgary ecosystem
Lead or co-lead fundraising events in Calgary, from concept through execution and post-event donor follow-up
Collaborate with the broader Mamas for Mamas team on national campaigns and events
Source local sponsors and community participation for fundraising initiatives
Strategy and Reporting     Set and track measurable fundraising goals on a quarterly and annual basis
Provide regular updates to the Executive Director on pipeline, revenue, and relationship status
Contribute to the overall fund development strategy for the organization
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS   This is a revenue-generating role, and it is expected to pay for itself. Within the first 90 days, you will establish an active grants pipeline, submit funding applications, and open relationships with prospective donors and corporate partners. By the end of month six, the funding you have secured is expected to cover the cost of the role to that point, with the position generating revenue well beyond its cost over the full year.

We hire fundraisers who close, and we measure accordingly.
WHAT YOU BRING     5+ years of progressive experience in nonprofit fund development, major gifts, or a related field
A proven track record of successfully writing and securing grants
Strong relationship-building skills and the confidence to make direct asks
Experience managing a donor portfolio and moving prospects through a cultivation cycle
Comfort with CRM systems (Salesforce experience is an asset)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Self-directed, organized, and comfortable working with limited supervision
Deep understanding of and genuine commitment to Mamas for Mamas' mission and the communities we serve
Existing network in Calgary's nonprofit, business, or philanthropic community is a significant asset
COMPENSATION   $50,000 to $65,000 annually, commensurate with experience. Part-time.
