What qualifications are we looking for?
Post‑secondary education in social work or other related fields (psychology, specialized education, sociology, criminology, etc.)
2 to 3 years of experience in youth intervention
Ability to work per a flexible schedule
Excellent administrative abilities
Current Standard First Aid with CPR‑C certificated within the last 12 months from an approved AB OHS provider (Asset if certification is issued by one of the following five Canadian organizations:
Canadian Red Cross, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Lifesaving Society, St John's Ambulance and/or Canadian Ski Patrol)
Evidence of a clear Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector Search
Three professional references
What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?
Intervenes with secondary school students on an individual basis and in a group setting
Supervises and supports students with assigned schoolwork
Facilitates group or one‑to‑one workshops on topics related to the issues faced by program participants (anger management, responsibility, bully, etc.)
Communicates regularly with program Primary Youth Worker and program Supervisor on activities completed as well as participation and engagement of students present
Maintains strong partnerships with schools that refer students to the program
Maintains reports on student participation in the program
Attends meetings with schools as required by the program structure
Maintains strong communication with other team members and organizes coverage for program during meeting, unavailability or as more support is needed
Communicates with parents on an as‑needed basis (e.g., when the student is absent)
Completes other general administrative duties
Adheres to the YMCA Child and Vulnerable Adults Protection and Procedures and Code of Conduct
Must be able and willing to travel between assigned YMCA Branch, including referring schools
Understands and integrates the value of philanthropy, and participates in Annual Campaign and fundraising events
Supports with other branch or association duties as requested
