The Registered Nurse (RN) reports to the Director of Care and collaborates on the delivery of resident care to meet individual needs within the nurse’s level of competency. The RN provides quality and safe resident care, promotes teamwork and a culture that supports Age Care Mission, Vision, and Guiding Principles of Respect, Teamwork, and Quality, and encourages practices that respect resident, family, and staff rights, individuality, and diversity.

The RN promotes health and safety awareness in the workplace and takes a key role in continually providing an environment that promotes resident safety and freedom from harm and injury.

• Coordinate nursing and other services for residents within the neighbourhood and with other services within the residence.
• Lead shift reports with members of the health care team, ensuring that all team members are informed of changes in residents’ status.
• Record significant changes in residents’ condition and ensure documentation in the resident’s chart adheres to Age Care policies and procedures and Provincial College of Nurses and Standards of Practice.
• Review and process physician orders as per procedure, ensuring orders are implemented as soon as possible. Immediately communicate difficulties in processing physician orders to the Director of Care or Assistant Director of Care.

• A sound knowledge and background in geriatric, rehabilitation, or long‑term care nursing, including activation, nursing, and personnel administration.
• A bachelor’s degree in nursing.
• Knowledge of the Fixing Long‑Term Care Act and Regulations, the appropriate sections of the Health Disciplines Act, Occupation Health and Safety Act, Pharmacy Act, Food and Drugs Act (Canada), Controlled Substances Act (Canada), Health Promotion and Protection Act, Personal Health Protection Act, Coroners Act, Provincial College of Nurses and Standards of Practice, and other pertinent federal, provincial, and municipal statutes that influence the operation of the nursing home and more specifically the nursing department.
