LPN - Operating Room Tech - Perioperative Education

Your Opportunity

AHS is partnered with Mac Ewan University to provide the Perioperative Nursing Program, which consists of 10 weeks of in-class and online theory learning, 60 hours of laboratory education, and 380 hours of clinical practicums. Upon successful completion of the Perioperative Nursing Certificate, you will have the knowledge and skills required to provide safe perioperative patient care in accordance with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides of Alberta (CLHA), the Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada (ORNAC), CSA standards, AHS policies, and the individual LPN scope of practice.

In this role, you will support continuity of care between the operating room and patient care areas, advocate for patients, and provide safe, effective, and efficient care in both scrub and circulating roles. Practice will range from foundational to increasingly complex perioperative nursing activities based on the LPN's education, demonstrated competence, individual scope of practice, employer policies, and the needs of the patient.

Upon successful completion of the program and conclusion of this temporary position, there may be an opportunity to apply for vacant LPN positions within the Rockyview General Hospital Operating Room and Alberta Health Services.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team, utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, and demonstrated skill level, in alignment with applicable legislation, standards of practice, policies, and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, high quality, patient and family centred care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization.

Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program. Active, or eligible for, registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support
- Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Required Qualifications:

AHS Rockyview Operating Room will provide specialty Perioperative training. Commitment to a comprehensive 12-week training program, in-class/online theory learning, 60 hours of labs, 380 hours of clinical practicums. followed by a full-time orientation is required. This temporary position is built upon three phases:
Phase 1 - online theory education/on-site instruction Phase 2 - 8 days in-person lab (Grant Mac Ewan). Phase 3 - Clinical on-site (Rockyview) practicum of 380 hours or as determined by proof of competency. Ability to wear lead apron radiograph protection and any personal protective equipment (PPE) for an extended period of time. Ability to stand scrubbed for hours to support the surgical team.
