Registered Nurse - Perioperative Training

AHS is partnered with Macewan University to provide the Perioperative Nursing Program which consists of 10 weeks of in-class/online theory learning, 60 hours of labs, 380 hours of clinical practicums. With a Perioperative Nursing Certificate, you will have the knowledge and skills to provide safe, perioperative patient care in accordance with CRNA, Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada (ORNAC) and CSA standards of practice.

In this role, you will provide a link between the OR and the patient care units and will act as a patient advocate while delivering safe, effective and efficient care in both a scrub and a circulating role. The scope of practice is a continuum ranging from basic to advanced clinical nursing activities using evidence-based measures and outcomes. Upon successful completion of the program and the conclusion of this temporary position, there will be the opportunity to apply on vacant OR positions at Rockyview General Hospital and AHS.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance.

You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values.

PLEASE NOTE:

Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

• Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
• Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification.
• If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the past five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required prior to employment: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4):

• AHS Rockyview Operating Room will provide specialty Perioperative training.
• Commitment to a comprehensive 12-week training program, in-class/online theory learning, 60 hours of labs, 380 hours of clinical practicums.
• followed by a full-time orientation is required.
• This temporary one-year position is built upon three phases:
  Phase 1 - online theory education/on-site instruction Phase 2 - 8 days in-person lab (Grant Mac Ewan). Phase 3 - Clinical on-site (Rockyview) practicum of 380 hours or as determined by proof of competency.
• Ability to wear lead apron radiograph protection and any personal protective equipment (PPE) for an extended period of time.
• Ability to stand scrubbed for hours to support the surgical team.

• Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
• 4th year nursing student focus experience Operating Room.
• Current ACLS or PALS certification.
