This position is located at the University of Calgary
¿ s Main Campus; however travel to the other campuses may also be required. This position is a casual augmentation position with no guaranteed minimum work hours per week. The position works within the AUPE Collective Agreement with work hours ranging from 8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday.
Summary of
Key Responsibilities General Patient care Provides accurate and efficient patient triage, with appropriate chart notes, and identifies required assessment tools in advance of appointment start time.
Advises patients via phone, email, and in person regarding health concerns and reinforces self-care directions given to patients by the physicians, as required.
Provides patient education for after-care such as wound care, vaccine administration, etc.
Provides procedural assistance to physicians as required.
Conducts medical and lab collection procedures independently as outlined in clinic policy and procedure documents.
Coordinates laboratory and diagnostic exams/tests as requested by physicians and provides patient education as needed.
Performs head-to-toe assessment, including vision, height, weight, and postural vital sign measurement.
Reviews and receives physician direction on laboratory and diagnostic imaging results, using critical thinking skills to support best triage pathways.
Assesses and maintains all medical equipment for good working condition and ensures all exam rooms are fully stocked with medical supplies as appropriate.
Safeguards confidentiality of patient information.
Assists in disposing of biohazardous wastes.
Provides consultations and administers immunizations based on public health schedule and requirements. May participate in University-run seasonal immunization campaigns, such as influenza and COVID.
Manages and supports vaccine storage and administration as per Alberta Health Services rules and regulations.
Assists physicians and psychiatrists with mental health patients regarding appropriate referrals and triaging of follow-up appointments.
Assists physicians with health emergencies, including mental health.
Acts as a liaison between counselling, student support advisors, and Student Accessibility Services(SAS), reviewing patients in a collaborative model.
Trained in medical device reprocessing.
Administrative Directs patients to examination rooms, maintains an orderly and efficient flow in the clinic.
Works closely with reception to ensure efficient appointment triage and management.
Attends SWS staff meetings as required.
Supports policy, procedure, and protocol development related to SWS.
Supports the development and implementation of health education programs for students.
Participates in clinical administrative tasks, such as chart preparation, document, management, mail, supply, and medication management.
Supports in managing daily nursing assignments as required.
Qualifications / Requirements Active registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta.
Current CPR-C/BLS required.
3-5 years of experience in public health, primary care, and mental health (or combination) required.
Electronic medical record experience in Accuro or similar strongly preferred.
Exceptional communication and documentation skills required.
Excellent assessment skills with application of the nursing process required.
The ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage workload and schedule independently is required.
Experience working in a multidisciplinary team with clear demonstration of the ability to work well with and be respectful of co-workers and students.
Critical thinking and the ability to problem solve is required.
Experience providing public health vaccines and intradermal injections preferred.
Previous experience in minor triage and instrument processing is preferred.
