Public Health Nurses working in the Well Child Clinic in a focused practice are required to practice with a high level of autonomy in community settings with the ability to be self-directed and exercise independent nursing judgement. The PHN’s role is to promote, protect and preserve the health of individuals, families, groups, communities and populations in a variety of settings in an ongoing or episodic process.

Daily, this position provides family-centered support and preventative approaches for infants, children and their parents through routine and complex immunization appointments. Collaborative work includes other health professionals and community partners, supporting capacity building approaches focused on client strengths and participation. The PHN has direct responsibilities within a Population Health Model to assess key health determinants and respond to global, national, provincial and local mandates.

Many of the responsibilities of the PHN are mandated by the Public Health Act and Communicable Disease Regulations. PHNs will advocate and engage in healthy public policy options to facilitate healthy living, incorporating the concepts of inclusiveness, equity and social justice as well as the principles of community development. Well Child Clinic services may include: community and health assessments, development and evaluation of plans: family centered consultation and facilitation appropriate to all developmental phases throughout the lifespan;

program delivery and follow up; immunization and communicable disease prevention and control; client advocacy; fostering appropriate use of the health care system; facilitating cooperation and coordination amongst the many health and social service agencies; collection and recording of client based data; involvement in nursing or other health research; quality improvement; and client safety/risk management.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance.

You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of PCA.

PLEASE NOTE:

Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
