Oncology Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, RN Nurse, Palliative Care Nurse
Reporting to the Associate Manager of the Ambulatory Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) Department at the state-of-the-art Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre in Calgary, Alberta, the Registered Nurse (RN) collaborates with the interdisciplinary BMT team and program stakeholders to provide safe, ethical, evidence-based and patient-centred care to adults referred to the southern Alberta Blood and Marrow Transplant Program (ABMTP). Utilizing highly specialized cellular therapy knowledge, technical expertise, interpersonal skills, and sound clinical judgment, the RN applies the nursing process in the delivery of care for complex patient populations including allogeneic transplant recipients and donors, autologous transplant recipients, and CAR-T therapy recipients.
In accordance with Health Canada tissue donation regulations and ABMTP policies, procedures, and guidelines, the RN is responsible for coordinating care for transplant recipients and donors from referral through admission for transplant; providing education to patients and families regarding cellular therapies, transplantation, bone marrow or peripheral blood stem cell collection, anticipated treatment side effects, symptom management, and rehabilitation; providing emotional support and advocating for patients and families throughout the pre-transplant process;
facilitating referrals to program stakeholders and community resources; coordinating HLA typing and reviewing international donor searches for potential allogeneic transplant recipients; collaborating with the Clinical Research team to support patients receiving cellular therapy through research protocols; and performing other duties as assigned. As the post-transplant components of the BMT Clinics are closely integrated with pre-transplant care, there may be a requirement to reassign duties between the two services.
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance.
You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values.
