The Fisheries Seasonal Technician is a vital member of a specialized team responsible for implementing Alberta’s annual fish‑stocking program. Operating with a degree of independence, this position performs a variety of technical duties to ensure the effective delivery of fish culture programs in accordance with Ministry policies, procedures, and legislation. The Technician provides technical support in fish egg and fish production activities, contributing to the Ministry’s business plan goals and objectives.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the rearing and culture of fish at provincial hatcheries, providing technical support and basic expertise in fish culture practices.
- Participate in field work, including travel to and temporary stays at remote locations (up to 10 days), for the sampling and monitoring of stocked water bodies using both intensive and passive netting methods.
- Contribute to the stocking of lakes and fisheries, supporting programs that account for approximately 25% of provincial angling activity and over $166 million in economic impact annually.
- Support hatchery and field operations that maintain and enhance recreational angling experiences for the public.
- Conduct public hatchery tours and engage with stakeholders to promote awareness and understanding of fish culture programs and initiatives.
- Perform physically demanding tasks, including heavy lifting, and participate in weekend, early morning, and late-night shifts as part of a rotating schedule with other staff.
This role directly contributes to the success of Alberta’s fish culture initiatives and the delivery of high-quality recreational fishing opportunities for the public.

Required
- A completed high school diploma plus some related experience (i.e. up to 12 months).
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
