Animal Care Support Role Zoo

Support wildlife conservation efforts as an Animal Care Assistant at the Wilder Institute's Calgary Zoo on a temporary basis. Engage directly in animal maintenance and habitat preparation.

As a part of the Calgary Zoo team, this role will enable you to contribute to animal welfare and public education through hands-on care. Responsibilities include cleaning animal habitats, preparing prescribed diets, and assisting with necessary maintenance tasks. You’ll play a crucial role in ensuring a safe environment for both wildlife and visitors, all while adhering to strict protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

• Clean and maintain animal habitats diligently

• Assist with feeding and diet preparations for various species

• Report abnormalities in animal behavior to the appropriate staff

• Support pest management and preventive measures

• Engage with visitors through educational demonstrations

Requirements:

• Relevant education in Zoology or significant experience preferred

• Previous animal care experience, especially in zoos, is advantageous

• Hold a valid Class 5 Alberta driver's license

• Ability to adapt and perform physically demanding tasks

• Strong commitment to maintaining a safe environment
