Description
The Department of Family Medicine in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Knowledge Mobilization Specialist. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 6 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
This position reports to the Principal Investigator.
This role provides high-level and strategic knowledge mobilization specialist support for a healthcare cultural safety project in partnership with the MÃtis Nation of Alberta. This position exercises a degree of autonomy in research activities but requires the individual to have strong coordination and exceptional communication skills.
Summary ofKey Responsibilities
- Liaise with community members, research participants, and researchers to develop and maintain positive relationships with all network team members and community members
- Provide weekly updates to team PI to ensure project is on track
- Work collaboratively and respectfully with Indigenous community partners and health care partners to ensure inclusion of all voices in the design and completion of the research project and knowledge mobilization activities
- Support and manage ethics applications including recruitment materials, informed consent, and other documents are required
- Participate in design and development of research processes including identification of methodologies, proposal development, recruitment strategies, and data analysis processes
- Conducting and assisting with literature, systematic, and scoping reviews
- Assisting with data analysis including transcription, anonymization, and qualitative analysis methods
- Generate project reports and research dissemination products as required by each project
- Generate presentations and posters on behalf of each project, to be used when presenting to various internal and external stakeholders
- Present reports to project team and stakeholders
- Lead the preparation of research reports and contribute to the writing of manuscripts resulting from primary research activities undertaken to be submitted for publication to appropriate scientific journals
- In-scope supervision:
Provide mentorship and guidance of junior staff and students that are working collaboratively on research projects - Demonstrate strong communication, team and interpersonal skills, and an ability to exercise judgment and take initiative to problem solve via conversation with team
- Work collaboratively with the brain health research team to support projects from start to finish, including data collection, data analysis, and final knowledge mobilization materials
- Work respectfully with Indigenous community partners, and health care partners to ensure inclusion of all voices in the completion of the research project
- Collect qualitative data (i.e., talking circles and field notes) from talking circles to prepare draft analysis reports and manuscripts. Analyze data in collaboration with research manager
- Assist the PI and research team with all administrative tasks to keep projects on track
- Manage own time and project tasks effectively. Demonstrate strong communication, team and interpersonal skills, and an ability to exercise judgment and take initiative to problem solve via conversation with team
- Graduate degree in health-related field (i.e. nursing, health sciences, health-related social science research) is required
- 5+ years of experience in health care setting or health research in any of the following areas:
Indigenous health, health services research, healthy policy or systems, and population/public health; A combination of education and experience will be considered - Experience participating in community engaged research practices and qualitative data collection and analysis is required
- Experience working with equity-deserving communities, particularly engaging with community members, is required
- Excellent project management, inter-cultural communication, and presentation skills required
- Experience and knowledge of university research ethics procedures is required
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and survey software (e.g. Qualtrics) required
- Experience with qualitative analysis software (e.g. NVivo) required
- Experience creating knowledge mobilization materials including manuscripts, research briefs and infographics is required
- Experience working with Indigenous communities, particularly engaging with community members and/or Elders and Knowledge Keepers is required
- Experience of contributing to successful grant funding applications is preferred
