Description
The Faculty of Social Work invites applications for a Research Coordinator. This recurring part‑time position is for approximately 3 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension. The recurring part‑time position reports to PI, Associate Professor, Faculty of Social Work, Central and Northern Alberta Region and can be located in Calgary or Edmonton as much of the work can be conducted remotely.
The position entails research project duties and liaison with members of the Faculty of Social Work. Job stressors are low to moderate and include deadlines and competing priorities. The Research Coordinator will work Monday to Friday up to 35 hours per week. The work environment requires majority of time spent at a computer or on the telephone. The position requires judgment and decision‑making in terms of following outlined study protocols and guidelines and making recommendations for improvements.
The incumbent will be required to lead and coordinate a research project, including evaluating the relevance of research literature, and organizing and implementing project methodology, with minimal supervision. This position also requires considerable problem‑solving ability and initiative, which may include identifying relevant questions and directing them to the Principal Investigator in a timely manner, independently knowing where to look for information, and contributing to discussions about solutions to complex problems.
Additionally, the incumbent will work through the methodology of the study, including a critical review and analysis of the literature in the area of navigation to services and neurodevelopmental disability. This includes critically appraising the methodology, coordinating and supervising students who are scanning the literature, assessing methodological rigor, exploring outcome measures, and reviewing findings with expert stakeholders, including people with lived experience.
Knowledge of University policy and processes will be essential, as the incumbent will also be responsible for facilitating grant applications and providing guidance and supervision to student research assistants / practicum students.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and lead core research team meetings; team members will include research assistants, academics, and external researchers. You will be expected to provide study updates, maintain meeting notes/minutes, and contribute to discussions. These meetings will involve approximately 5-10 participants.
- Lead and coordinate a team of research assistants working on the same project, including providing guidance, supervising their work, setting priorities and deadlines, and managing any concerns that may arise.
- Assist to maintain fidelity with protocols for research projects by managing research files and documents (both digital and physical) as outlined in the study protocol and ethics.
- Responsible to make recommendations to protocols or guidelines to increase the operational efficiency the research project.
- Complete assigned and scheduled tasks under own initiative with limited direct supervision.
- Develop and implement literature review search strategies that support project development.
- In collaboration with the PI, maintain submissions to the Research Ethics Board (REB).
- Coordinate and conduct data collection; develop study materials (posters/brochures in PowerPoint or similar), recruit participants and obtain participant consent for focus group meetings.
- Lead, organize and conduct focus groups, interviews and observations with research participants using ZOOM or Microsoft Teams. When applicable, the incumbent will ensure payment is made to research participants following University policy.
- Lead the analysis of qualitative and quantitative data.
- Maintain detailed and organized project documentation (both electronic and physical files; includes storing and managing the files).
- Lead manuscript preparation and knowledge translation - including working with the team in developing academic publications based on the research as well as developing research posters and presentations based on study findings.
