Description

The Department of Paediatrics in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Assistant. This Fixed Term Recurring Part‑time position is for approximately 6 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

Recurring Part‑time employees are hourly employees engaged to perform work on an irregular schedule.

Reporting to the Research Program Manager.

Summary of

Key Responsibilities
  • Regular communications to study team will be done to report on study updates, press releases, recruitment contacts and dissemination of research findings. This communication will also be completed in the form of
    • Preparing drafts of peer reviewed papers, posters and conference presentations by successfully writing, editing and meeting deadlines
    • Conducting literature reviews by obtaining information from publication sources in a timely manner and also be accurate and assembled through both electronic and paper copies. Literature reviews will be used for relevant background and supplementary support for current or upcoming studies
  • Accurate management of assembled documents will be an important part of this position
  • Data collection and processing data sets must be accurately prepared for use and basic statistical analysis. This may include
    • Cleaning data set and running basic statistical analysis with SPSS software
  • Assist with grant applications, including budget modules and justification during grant submissions, by collecting all relevant information and documents from other investigators, such as
    • Signature pages and assisting within obtaining information to complete operating grant budgets such as price quotes for relevant budget items
  • Attend off campus meetings when meeting with non‑university team members
  • Help assist with the organization and flow of current and upcoming studies by communicating and organizing stakeholders, researchers and community members
  • Provide schedule and timeline updates for research projects
Qualifications / Requirements
  • Bachelor degree in science‑related field
  • 2 Year experience in Health Sciences Research
  • The ideal candidate has interest and/or experience in research methods, health policy, and/or child development
  • Must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team, be pro‑active and self‑directed Demonstrated strong organizational and coordination skills, with the ability to set priorities, multitask, meet deadlines and pay attention to detail, are required
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast‑paced, high pressure, team‑based environment with an ability to meet deadlines maintaining a positive attitude
  • Excellent communication skills (written and interpersonal) are required
  • Flexibility, commitment, and ability to seek appropriate resources is required
  • Proven ability to work in a confidential setting and demonstrate good judgment in dealing with sensitive and confidential situations required

    Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically MS Word, Power Point, Outlook, and Excel is required
  • Knowledge of the University of Calgary processes and procedures is desirable
  • Proficient with End Note bibliographic software to manage references is an asset
  • Experience with SPSS (data software, like SAS) is a definite asset
