The Department of Clinical Neurosciences in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Position Title
. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

The Research Assistant will coordinate and administer research activities related to specific magnetic resonance (MR) imaging and electroencephalography (EEG) projects. Responsibilities include subject recruitment and data collection/management. Multiple simultaneous deadlines throughout the year must be met and may require a flexible work schedule. Work occurs in an environment with exposure to high magnetic fields (3.0T). This position may require infrequent early morning and weekend shifts.

Reports to the Primary Investigator.

Summary of

Key Responsibilities
  • Under general supervision & direction of the PI, assist in implementing original experiments within the guidelines of the research
  • Organize and perform clinical functional MRI studies for the Department of Clinical Neuroscience
  • Support MRI and EEG research activities, specifically as it relates to the acquisition of magnetic resonance imaging and EEG data
  • Requires simultaneous participation in multiple research projects on an ongoing basis
  • Reliable and safe operation of all laboratory equipment
  • Train other staff and students in the operation of equipment and laboratory protocols
  • Keep laboratory and work area clean and safe
  • Recommend change to processes or procedures, as required
  • Establish and maintain effective, productive relationships with staff, peers, immediate supervisor and senior management and with the campus community
  • Manage own time effectively and ensure PI is kept informed of activities, and progress of work
  • Demonstrate strong communication, team and customer service skills, and an ability to exercise judgment within established guidelines
  • Understanding of safety codes, standards, and systems related to specialization
Qualifications / Requirements
  • Completion of graduate degree in a related discipline preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of research experience
  • Must be open to learning and development, and be willing to accept new challenges and assignments
  • Provide semi-skilled procedures to support the research project
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment
  • A positive attitude and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are critical to success
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Strong organizational and leadership skills are essential
  • Experience with patient-oriented research is preferred
  • Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and the Tri-Council Policy Statement:
    Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans (TCPS2) is required
