This position may be physically demanding due to periods of standing, repetitive tasks, and handling of frozen or fresh animal specimens. It involves exposure to biohazardous materials and work with both animal and human tissue samples. The role is located at the Foothills Campus.
Summary of
Key Responsibilities
Collect research materials in the laboratory and support research projects and general laboratory maintenance.
Isolate and maintain human and animal pluripotent stem cells, perform differentiation and reprogramming, and conduct transplantation assays.
Learn new techniques such as flow cytometry/FACS, cell culture, transplantation, and cell transfection.
Maintain laboratory equipment, report malfunctions or depleted consumables to the Principal Investigator.
Identify problems and recommend solutions to the Principal Investigator.
Monitor vacuum lines, gas supplies, filters, and liquid‑nitrogen supplies.
Maintain confidentiality, adhere to safety regulations, and assist in other areas as required.
Interact with facility users in a pleasant and respectful manner.
Contribute to the development of SOPs and MSDS and ensure adherence by all laboratory users.
Prepare standard chemical solutions and reagents, dispose of chemical waste, and maintain the laboratory to safety standards.
Participate in additional research projects as time permits.
Attend weekly lab meetings when scheduled.
Foster a positive and productive work environment.
Qualifications / Requirements
BSc in biology, biochemistry, or a related field (advanced education or research experience is an asset).
Experience with molecular biology techniques (DNA/RNA collection, RT‑PCR, plasmid preparation).
Moderate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Photoshop, or Adobe Illustrator.
Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills; fluency in English is required.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with strong interpersonal skills.
Innovative mindset and willingness to share ideas with the Principal Investigator and lab members.
