The Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Associate, Bone Mechanobiology . This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
The laboratory develops advanced imaging and experimental approaches to better understand bone growth, mechanobiology, musculoskeletal disease, and fracture healing.
Reporting to the Principal Investigator.
Recurring Part-time employees are hourly employees engaged to perform work on an irregular schedule.
Summary of
Key Responsibilities Assist with in vivo preclinical studies investigating bone adaptation and mechanobiology, including animal experiments, tissue processing, histology, immunohistochemistry, and running established advanced imaging workflows
Support development, optimization, and documentation of experimental protocols and standard operating procedures
Maintain laboratory inventory, order consumables, and coordinate routine equipment maintenance
Assist with laboratory organization, safety procedures, and general day-to-day laboratory operations
Manage and maintain the laboratory micro-CT imaging database and associated metadata (training will be provided)
Perform data quality control, documentation, and contribute to quantitative image analysis and reporting
Provide technical support, training, and mentorship to graduate students and other laboratory personnel
Ensure compliance with laboratory safety, animal care, and institutional research policies
Maintain accurate experimental records and contribute to data management and documentation
Work collaboratively with graduate students, trainees, and faculty to support ongoing research projects
Qualifications / Requirements Master's degree in biomedical engineering, biomedical sciences, health sciences, or related discipline. Individuals with a Bachelor's degree in one of these fields who has relevant experience working in a biomedical research laboratory will also be considered
Demonstrated experience supporting laboratory-based research in an academic, hospital, or research institute environment
Experience with one or more of the following is considered an asset Preclinical in vivo experimental animal research, particularly rodent models
Tissue processing, histology/immunohistochemistry, and microscopy
Vivo/ex vivo micro-computed tomography (microCT) or other advanced imaging techniques
Laboratory inventory management and equipment maintenance
Research data management and imaging databases
Image analysis, basic programming, or quantitative data analysis
An interest in building cross-disciplinary skills
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
Strong attention to detail, careful record keeping, and enthusiasm for working with new experimental protocols
Personable and keen learner who and enjoys working in a multidisciplinary team environment
