Geomatics Engineering in the Schulich School of Engineering invites applications for a Research Assistant . This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 8 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
This Research Assistant reports to the Principal Investigator in the Department of Geomatics Engineering. This role focuses on monitoring and analyzing the Earth's environment using satellite remote sensing, geospatial technologies, and environmental data with a focus on wildfire management. A high degree of flexibility is essential to meet project deadlines, often necessitating independent initiative and critical decision-making.
Summary of
Key Responsibilities
Drive the technical execution of wildfire management-related activities using geo-spatial technologies.
Synthesize research findings into high-quality technical reports, manuscripts, and funding proposals. Ensure clear and effective communication of complex scientific results.
Proactively manage project timelines to meet all milestones and deadlines.
Provide guidance and supervision to junior researchers.
Qualifications / Requirements:
A minimum of a bachelor's degree in Geomatics Engineering, or a closely related field.
Demonstrated ability to conduct research with minimal supervision.
Specific expertise required in processing VIIRS and MODIS data for wildfire management.
excellent communication skills with a background in preparing research manuscripts, reports, and proposals.
