Quantitative Health Equity Research

The Department of Community Health Sciences (DCHS), in the Cumming School of Medicine (CSM), University of Calgary, invites applications for a tenure-track position in Quantitative Health Equity Research at the rank of assistant professor. The anticipated start date for the appointment is on or before July 1, 2027. This Emerging Leading position is part of the University of Calgary's Canada Impact+ initiative in the strategic research area of Health and will provide opportunities to collaborate with the university's Canada Impact+ Research Chairs, including the Research Chair in Maternal and Child Health Policy.

This position will have 75% of their time allocated to research, with the remaining 25% allocated to teaching and service. It is anticipated that this role will be within the Department of Community Health Sciences with cross-appointments to other Departments or Faculties as appropriate for the research program.

We seek an outstanding early career researcher with a PhD or equivalent, as required by the University of Calgary, and has post-doctoral fellowship training in a relevant field such as epidemiology, biostatistics, health services research, health policy, population health, public health, economics, sociology, or geography. Applicants should have an emerging program of research addressing important health challenges through rigorous quantitative or mixed-methods approaches, with demonstrated relevance to health equity, population health, health systems, health policy, or related areas (e.g., rural health, Indigenous Health, women's+ health, racism and health).

The candidate will demonstrate the potential to establish an internationally recognized, independent program of research. The successful candidate will have strong potential for knowledge mobilization and societal impact through collaborations across the University of Calgary and with external partners, including, but not limited to the Impact+ Research Chair in Maternal and Child Health Policy. Evidence of successful teaching and/or graduate supervision will be considered an asset.

The successful candidate will apply rigorous quantitative, computational, or other appropriate analytical methods. Applicants may use diverse study designs and data sources, including administrative data, clinical data, surveys, cohorts, implementation research, or linked datasets. Research across any stage of the life course is welcome.

The successful candidate will conduct innovative, high-impact research, secure external funding, build partnerships, contribute to teaching and curriculum development, and advance knowledge mobilization, innovation, policy, and broader societal impact. Candidates should demonstrate research excellence, evidence of transdisciplinary collaboration, commitment to meaningful knowledge mobilization, and the potential to generate scientific, policy, clinical, community, or societal impact.
