The  Department of Medicine  in the  Cumming School of Medicine  invites applications for a  Research Assistant . This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 7 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

This position reports to the Principal investigator and will have accountabilities to other senior team members.

The Research Assistant will support research activities for various research and innovation projects within this research program. This position works closely with the Project Manager to support co-design and knowledge dissemination activities. One of the projects focuses on co-adapting, pilot and evaluating a pregnancy-specific vaccine communication approach to the needs of Newcomers to Canada. Adapting and evaluating the intervention will require learning behavior change theory, implementation and co-design evaluation frameworks.

It is anticipated that the Research Assistant will support 2-3 projects at any given time.

Summary of

Key Responsibilities

Execution of key research activities under limited supervision in consultation with the project coordinator and the principal investigator, including:

Support data collection, cleaning and analysis for use in scholarly publications

Assist with conducting interviews, focus groups and co design sessions

Support recruitment activities by sending invitations, coordinating schedules, and maintaining accurate project tracking logs

Synthesizing evidence

Preparing presentations, summary tables, slide decks, and other project-related materials

Assisting on project documentation (both electronic and physical files) in accordance with Access to Information under the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA) standards set by the University of Calgary

Supporting Research Ethics Board applications and revisions

Assist with manuscript preparation for publication

Qualifications / Requirements:

Background in health education or health promotion is desirable

Experience with participatory and community engagement research, including working with advisory groups and newcomer communities is very desirable

Qualitative research experience is required

Ability to translate scientific information for diverse audiences

Experience producing visual research outputs (presentations, infographics, social media content)

Academic writing skills

Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills

Cultural awareness and ability to work effectively with diverse communities

High level of concentration, resourcefulness, and creativity required

Ability to work independently and collaboratively

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and NVivo
