Sort Associate; Temporary

Women In Need Society (WINS) is seeking a Temporary Sort Associate to join our Donation Centre team. Reporting to the Manager - Sort, the Sort Associate is responsible for ensuring the effective management of donations from individual and retail donors by sorting, grading, distributing, recycling, and storing of donated goods daily. The Sort Associate enhances WINS’ contribution to the community by providing excellent support to customers (through Twice New and More Store by WINS), donors, and volunteers at the WINS Donation Centre.

This temporary position will run until December 12, 2026, with approximately 32 hours per week. Candidates must be available to work on both Saturdays and Sundays.

• Efficiently & consistently sortand grade previously rough-sorted donations to determine the quality and most appropriate path for each item (ex: for thrift stores, Twice New e-commerce, More Store byWINS, seasonal, recycle, or disposal)
• Refine sorted goods into specific product categories (ex: style, item type, etc.) and load into bins for holding/storage
• Share expertise as required with other staff and volunteers regarding the quality of donations (grading)

• Recognize product suitable for recycling,salvaging all possible product to divert it from landfill, reduce WINS’environmental imprint’ and build WINS recycle revenue

• Supply the More Store by WINS with product from the sort area; remove dated product from the More Store divert toit to recycle
• Process sales transactions aspoint of sale (POS) in an accurate and efficient manner
• Provide friendly, positive, professional service to customers of the More Store by WINS
• Support Twice New e-commerce with ensuring suitable product availability from donations

• Act as an ambassador for WINS bothon and off the job
• Maintain excellent donor, employee,and volunteer relations through positive, kind, and professional interactions with others
• Engage and support individual and corporate group volunteers to ensure that their experience is fun and rewarding
• Maintain ongoing communication with management on any issues or concerns

• Positively engage in and comply with all WINS health & safety practices, procedures, and policies
• Maintain a safe working area for all employees, volunteers, clients, and customers by ensuring workstations andaisles are clean, tidy, and clear of clutter
• Other duties as assigned

• Grade 12 education, or equivalent combination of education and experience

• Eligible to legally work in Canada
• An understanding of and affinityfor the WINS brand, mission, and role with our clients, customers, volunteers,donors, and community
• Solid organization skills with the ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment
• Effective communication skills including proficiency in verbal and written English
• Basic numeracy is required to keep counts and operate point of sale equipment
• A welcoming and empathetic demeanor with an ability to build and maintain positive relationships with other employees and individual & corporate volunteers
• Flexibility to comply with a work schedule with shifts throughout the week
• Able to stand for long periods oftime
• Able to correctly and safely lifta minimum of 50lbs/23kg individually, and 100lbs/45kg as part of a team
• Work-ready with CSA approved steel-toed safety boots
