My client is a 100% employee-owned Canadian environmental consulting firm with an impressive legacy of three decades in operation. Known for their practical approach to ecological consulting—delivering actionable solutions, not just reports—they bring together a team of experienced biologists, scientists, and planners to serve a diverse suite of sectors including renewable energy, mining, oil & gas, transportation, regional planning, and reclamation.

The firm operates across Western and Northern Canada, with multiple strategically located offices serving regional and national clients. They emphasize science-driven, client-focused environmental solutions, built on collaboration and long-term relationships.

My client is looking for a Senior Vegetation Ecologist who can take ownership of vegetation and wetland programs across diverse projects. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on leading from the front—mentoring teams, managing projects, and building strong client relationships—while delivering measurable results in vegetation ecology, ecosystem mapping, and environmental assessment.

Remote / WFH / Hybrid: 100% remote or hybrid within any western regional offices.

Travel: 5%

Salary: $85k - $145k DOE, plus health benefits, RRSP matching, annual performance bonuses and annual profit-sharing bonuses (The final salary will reflect the qualifications, relevant experience, expertise, and professional designations that each candidate brings to the role. Individuals who offer additional strengths or bring exceptional value to the team will be considered for compensation beyond the stated range, as our client recognizes and rewards unique contributions.)

• Lead and Deliver Projects: Oversee multiple vegetation and wetland projects simultaneously, ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery that consistently meets regulatory and client requirements.
• Provide Technical Excellence: Produce defensible assessments, mapping products, and reports that withstand regulatory scrutiny and build client trust in your expertise.
• Mentor and Grow Talent: Actively develop junior and intermediate staff into strong technical contributors, fostering succession capacity and a culture of continuous learning within the team.
• Drive Business Development

  Identify new opportunities, prepare winning proposals, and cultivate long-term client relationships that contribute to sustained profitability and repeat business.
• Demonstrate Operational Strength: Maintain high standards of safety, quality, and efficiency across all projects, setting the benchmark for performance within the vegetation team.

• 10+ years of environmental consulting experience with a focus on vegetation ecology, wetland ecology, and/or terrestrial ecosystem mapping.
• A degree in biology, ecology, or related field (MSc an asset).
• Professional registration (or eligibility) as RPBio, RPF, PBiol, or PAg.
• Proven experience in project management, client liaison, and regulatory engagement.
• Strong technical knowledge of vegetation taxonomy, listed species, ecosystem mapping, reclamation, and wetland science in Western Canada.
• Ability and willingness to travel for fieldwork in remote locations.
• Class 5 driver’s license.
