Manager – Biological Sciences
Location:
Edmonton or Calgary, AB. This position is part of the Environment and Water – Biological Sciences team.
We are looking for a seasoned professional to lead our Alberta team. The successful candidate will manage biologists and ecologists, oversee biophysical and regulatory assessments, contribute to business development, and provide senior technical leadership across complex, interdisciplinary projects.
Responsibilities- Lead and mentor a team of biologists and ecologists in conducting biophysical assessments.
- Guide the team on regulatory coordination and permitting for projects in a dynamic work environment.
- Act as a technical lead on multidisciplinary projects and review complex proposals and technical documents.
- Interact effectively with clients, regulatory agencies, other team members, and the public, providing senior‑level technical advice.
- Contribute to business development by maintaining high project performance, identifying opportunities, preserving client relationships, and leading proposal development (scopes of work, cost estimates, formal submissions).
- Lead major proposals and collaborate closely with a multi‑disciplinary team of professionals and technical experts in biology and environmental science.
- Support and mentor junior team members while staying current on technical and sector‑based trends and legislation at municipal, provincial, and national levels.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biology, ecology, environmental science, or a related field.
- Professional designation (e.g., P.Biol, P.Ag.) with a minimum of 15 years of experience.
- Experience managing multidisciplinary teams or staff.
- Strong track record in business development.
- Deep knowledge of environmental regulatory requirements in the Western Provinces and Northern Territories.
- Experience coordinating regulatory and stakeholder consultation, leading technical deliverables, and supporting public consultation.
- Proficiency with industry‑standard resources, tools, and best practices, including provincial environmental legislation and policy (municipal and federal expertise is an asset).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage clients, regulatory agencies, stakeholders, and the public.
